My wife spent an entire year taking on extra work and smashing all her targets so that she could ask for a pay rise, they actually gave her one and then literally 2 days later our landlord put up our rent by more than the raise because he decided it was time to be paid more money

When I got married we couldn't afford a phone at all. We couldn't afford a landline, because we had a baby who needed formula, clothes, and shoes. We went next door to my parents if we needed to call the doctor or some other important calls. We lived for a year or more with NO phone. No cable TV until we were married ten years because again, we couldn't afford it. In 46 years of marriage we have never owned a new car. We still buy used cars, and my husband maintains them. A good part of his life has been spent under the hoods of cars. Everyone makes choices. I'm not blaming other people for mine, you should own yours.
