The general public is hereby informed that a particular group within the Students’ body extended an invitation to the former Presidential Candidate and two-term Governor of Anambra State to deliver a lecture within the University premises. The University authorities were not duly informed of the status and calibre of the invited guest until Friday, just a day before the scheduled programme. It is important to note that events involving high-profile personalities of such standing require adequate prior notification to the University authorities because it will enable the institution to make necessary logistical and security arrangements, including proper liaison with relevant security agencies such as the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services (DSS), in order to ensure the safety of the guest, members of the University community and the general public. Consequently, given the short notice and the attendant inability to complete these critical arrangements, the University authorities could not approve the use of Oduduwa Hall for the event as requested by the organisers. The decision was taken purely in the interest of safety, orderliness and adherence to established protocols governing the use of University facilities, adding that it is not, in any way, a reflection of disregard for the person or status of His Excellency, Peter Obi, whom the University holds in high esteem. My youngest sister has been kidnapped 💔! She was kidnapped on Monday, 13 April 2026, on her way to Abuja to report for duties from Ogun State, Nigeria. We have not gotten precise information about where the incident happened. She reached us briefly around 12.am Wednesday, 15 April 2026, that she has been kidnapped since on Monday without details of who kidnapped her, why, and where she is before the phone was taken from her. Now, they have been calling me until this moment demanding N100 million naira. Where do I raise 100 million naira? I can't even raise 100 thousand naira. They are calling me with registered numbers. Our preliminary findings have it that this happened in Kabba, Kogi State, Nigeria. I have been to three different police stations. One in Lagos and the two at Mowe and Redeemed Police stations. The police stations have no tracking system and that since there is no information about location, police said they can't work. I called police national PPRO. He said I should go and report it at the nearest police station after I had already reported. While trying to explain further, he ended the call and did not pick up my calls again until now. She remains in the harsh and harrowing den of the kidnappers until now. I do not want to lose my sister. She is a very young girl who is just starting life. Yet again , austerity does not create wealth. Statements like this serves only one purpose and it’s to play to the gallery. We have a wastage problem but it’s not our biggest problem. I am more particular about a president more willing to interrogate long standing structural issues and help galvanize a well coordinated effort to “grow the pie” and improve human capital.
