@kevin_hiatt Our ability to understand and deploy math stands in stark contrast to our capacity to understand each other and work together as people.

The Integrity entered earth's atmosphere at more than 24k mph (Mach 32+). It hit the water in its splashdown at between 17-20mph. The brilliance that went into something so ancillary as slowing the vehicle's speed upon entry is beyond amazing. I am constantly in awe of humanity.

Oh, and for those of you posting death threats and other insults, I am deeply wounded and I shall never recover for having been insulted by a stranger on the internet who is butt hurt over something another stranger said on the internet.

Philly, DC, SF, Boston, and Chicago - real cities by American standards but not global cities. We should have at least 2-3 NYCs in the east, 2-3 in middle, and 2-3 in the west. Basically what if the US invested massively in electrified rail instead of highways.

@LunalNewport Boise is great because of the people who made it that way. Conservative ag folk. Don't destroy it. If you love it then fight to preserve it. Don't turn it into another crap pile that needs a poop app. Vote red.

@ProducerCities If equity is leaving, it also means investment into those “outbound” areas is also continuing, right?

Where is the Spokane for Austin? "It’s a proud & pretty big city that’s historically an important regional center, which coming into conflict with that tsunami of home equity that is flowing eastward out of the West Coast" futureofwhere.substack.com/p/all-the-next…

The Next Affordable City Is Already Too Expensive: "The sharks flee NYC & LA & gobble up the housing in Austin & Portland, whose priced-out home buyers swim to the cheaper feeding grounds of places like Spokane" [2022] nytimes.com/2022/02/20/bus…

@GetOnTap People may have different takes on how best we should try and solve problems and maximize opportunities, but 90% of the folks in Newport News and Grundy are really aligned in the values they live everyday. With that said, 10% are always out to lunch.

@GetOnTap 10% are blasting away on social media, completely absorbed by politics. The remainder are trying to save for a house/retirement, get kids to soccer practice, hug their loved ones, and gripe about roads/traffic, together.

This is Virginia, but I don’t recognize it. We have nothing in common with the people of Virginia Beach, Richmond, or Northern Virginia. Never have, never will. Why must we continue operating under people who encourage this sort of thing? They act like we are a leech in Appalachia, but get offended at the notion we break away and govern ourselves. Make that make sense. x.com/mattvanswol/st…

@PfalzCity Profit v. non-profit is simply a tax code distinction. The issue is the loss in capacity to mass capital ($$, ideas, community will). When consolidation happened, we’ve seen a corresponding reduction in our civic capacity to create leaders that work in place on problems.

@smartin_scott Once upon a time, local businesses gave back to the cities they were headquartered in. Today those companies have merged/moved away. There is no more local community support (ex: YUM Brands). Enter nonprofits who are trying to find coins left in cushions to serve our community.

@PfalzCity Well, I grew up in a city with 0 philanthropic activity for 100 years. Then I lived in a couple cities with strong philanthropic engagement over that same time frame. Guess which offer statistically better quality of lives, education, and opportunity today?

@smartin_scott I get how globalization/consolidation of corporations play into weakened local structures, but how are nonprofits to blame here? This really seems to long for the days when rich, white men in power families ruled the land & didn’t need to be concerned about women or minorities.

@Nathan_26_ @BNNBroncoNation The portal era gets people so hyped about snagging buried-on-the-depth-chart P4 guys, but as a Boise State fan, I've always been stoked on these JuCo dudes. Have something to prove. In hindsight, people would be at the airport greeting Winston Venable
