Kristi Noem reacts to a tweet from Governor Newsom’s press office saying, ‘Kristi Noem is going to have a bad day today. You’re welcome, America.’: “Well, it was cryptic; it was really menacing. It immediately panicked my family and friends within a couple of minutes of that being posted. When you get a post like that by a governor, immediately my staff and family think, what is going on? What does he mean? We have always known that words matter, but there have been real consequences that we have realized happen to incredible people like Charlie, and we will have to live with them forever.”

I’ve spent half of my adult life living in one foreign country or another and I don’t think I’ve ever felt so estranged from the surrounding culture as I am from the aesthetics and sensibilities of this movement. Not even a criticism, I just feel more at home in Greece than in these images.

Ilhan Omar’s comments regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk are vile and contemptible. They deserve the harshest criticism of every man and woman of good will. But this disgusting and hateful speech is still speech and is protected by our First Amendment. Censure is formal punishment by the House and we have already gone too far down this road.  Omar’s comments were not made in the House and even if they were, they broke no House rules. A free society depends on tolerating ALL speech — even hateful speech — confident that the best way to sort good from evil is to put the two side by side and trust the people to know the difference. Congress exists for this purpose. For this reason, I voted to table the censure resolution.

Howard Schultz can write off his $300 million yacht on his taxes, but his workers can’t write off the cost of the clothes they must buy to comply with Starbucks’ employee dress code. This is what a tax code written to benefit billionaires looks like.
More Perfect Union@MorePerfectUS

Howard Schultz, founder of Starbucks, has a new yacht. Its value is estimated at upwards of $300 million. Meanwhile over 10,000 Starbucks workers are still being denied a union contract.

@smbjettyfiremen No, Hilary was more inland and was still organized when she made landfall......Mario I don't think is even a tropical depression right now, and the dynamics are nothing like Hilary. Night and day.

Followers - Below is a brief update on #mario, as his remnants are going to start to effect the #SoCal region starting later today. Overall the system does to look to be developing a bit earlier, with most of the precipitation in #SoCal to come in overnight into tomorrow morning. Rate totals look to be about the same, but models I have posted below show a bit higher totals in the transverse range, from Ventura County thru the central coast, and north LAC. : Here’s a brief summary currently: - Remnants of Tropical Storm Mario are pushing moist air into #SoCal, making the region unusually humid. Dew points might be close to 70!! - Rain and thunderstorms are expected to begin Wednesday night and peak Thursday, tapering off toward Friday. - Early in the event, dry lightning and gusty winds present a fire risk, especially near dry brush or recent burn areas. - As moisture increases, threat shifts to localized flooding, debris flows, and rapid runoff, particularly in steep terrain or burned zones. - Rainfall amounts vary: many areas may get ~0.5 inch in the valleys/coastal areas, with mountain zones or localized spots possibly seeing 1–2 inches or more. - Overall, the weather will feel more tropical — muggy, humid, and unsettled — rather than clear and dry. I have posted a few image below from the @NWSLosAngeles, regarding expectations from #Mario. Again, this is not a high level hydro-logical event, but any heavy rainfall will be in the foothills or mountains in #SoCal. Hopefully this will squash the fire season if we get half of the rainfall in these model runs from the Euro AI, so fingers crosses. Will update everyone later tonight on any changes......Enjoy the hot muggy rain coming.......will feel like the Northeast for a few days! More later..... #CAwx #californiawildfires #California #Mario

Followers - Hope you are having a great week so far. I am sure everyone has heard about #Mario, but wanted to give an update below. Things are changing again out west, with the remnants of Tropical Storm #Mario . Below is my AI discussion, about Tropical Storm Mario and what it means for California’s weather this week: What is Mario, and where is it now? Mario is a tropical storm (previously weakened, then re-strengthened) off the Pacific coast of Mexico, near Baja. It’s not expected to make landfall in California (nor in Baja California) in a strong form. But its remnant moisture (i.e. the leftover atmospheric water, clouds, instability) is being pulled northward toward Southern California and into the Southwest. This is what all the chatter is about. Now, a few weeks ago, we had a similar TS come thru, but it has very limited dynamics. #Mario has more moisture, and it's remnants are headed north, which I showed below. This is why there could be wide spread showers, and T-Storms throughout the week starting tomorrow in #SoCal. What California can expect this week? These maps below project plume(s) of tropical moisture pushing north from off Mexico’s coast, feeding into Southern California and inland toward the Central Valley + Sierra. Heaviest rainfall as of now, is expected in SoCal (coastal, mountains, interior deserts) especially mid-week into Thursday. North of LAC I am looking at. Central California likely gets showers/storms Thursday-Friday; Northern California / the Bay Area could see lighter, more scattered precipitation with higher uncertainty. Here are rough totals the maps + forecast sources suggest: Region Expected Rainfall Southern California (coast, inland SoCal, deserts, mountains) Mostly .50–2 inches in many areas; some pockets could get more where storms linger. Central California (Central Valley, Sierra foothills) Moderately heavy in some spots — likely 0.5-1.5 inches, though uneven. Northern California / Bay Area Lower totals — scattered showers, possibly <0.5-1.0 inch in spots if storms set up. More dry lightning risk than heavy rainfall. (Weather West) Risks and hazards to watch: Flash flooding in urban areas, burn scars, canyons, steep terrain. Even a short, intense storm cell can cause dangerous runoff. Wildfire starts — due to dry lightning, gusty winds, and dry fuels especially in central and northern California or areas with recent fires. Power disruptions possible from storm-winds and lightning (downed trees, etc.). Travel / road hazards: slick roads, visibility issues in heavy rain, possible debris on roads, especially in mountainous regions. Heat & humidity health risk: Hot and muggy conditions can stress vulnerable populations (elderly, very young), especially before the moisture and storms arrive. Now, looking at these models below, #Mario is projected to stay of the coastal waters, but the plume of moisture, is really aimed north of LAC, which I have posted below. Both the Euro AI and the Euro ENS, and showing the plume north of LAC. Something to watch as we get thru the day, if it shifts. In the meantime, I will update everyone on this thread later, but get ready for some scattered showers, and maybe some T-Storms in the #SoCal mountains. I don't expect any hydro-logical issues, but will look at it later today when the PM models come thru. Again, we need any type of rain to suppress lack of rain/monsoonal pattern we had this summer as we transition into the calendar fall. More later..... #California #Mario #larain #Cawx

In response to business owners expressing concerns that increasing the minimum wage to $25/HR will force them to automate certain positions, a SD City Councilmember responded, “do not dare…I will have a policy for that too.” The city then voted to exempt themselves from the $25/HR minimum wage.

The NAM high resolution computer shows a very concerning amount of heavy rain clobbering LA county over a 24 hour period with widespread 2-4"+ amounts for the LA basin/Metropolitan areas. **Updated Possible Rain Amounts by region 12pm Today-9pm Friday** Despite our incoming significant rain event being less then 24 hours away computers still disagree a bit on the track up the remnant low of Tropical storm Mario(typical), just a 25 mile shift east or west will have big impacts on which areas see the most rain. Current trends have been slightly more west which favors LA and Ventura Counties with less in San Diego, the IE and our deserts. But with ample moisture, less cloud cover and daytime heating Inland, the more Severe and intense thunderstorms would be more likely in the IE&Deserts which could produce more rainfall over much shorter time frames for higher Flash flooding risk. Bottom line anything is possible rainfall wise with highly variable amounts over just a mile in many areas. Should have a much better idea on the track of the Low by late tonight! -West of Mountains- SB/Ventura: .35-1.50"+ LA: .50-1.75"+ OC: .30-1.25"+ IE: .25-1.25"+ SD: .10-.75"+(highest North) -Mountains- LA Mtns: 1.25-3.5"+ San Bernardino Mtns: .75-2.5"+(highest west) San Jacinto/Rosa Mtns: .50-2"+ San Diego Mtns: .50-2"+ With a descent amount of cold air above 10,000ft despite this being a tropical low, strong Thunderstorms could drop the snow level to 10-12kft at times, especially Thursday Eve so would not be surprised to see a dusting of summer snow up on San Gorgonio Peak(11500ft), similar to when Hawaiis highest Volcano sees snow sometimes during tropical systems . -Deserts- High: .20-1"+ Low: trace-1"+ #CAwx #Rain #Thunderstorms #Flooding #SoCal #LosAngeles #SanDiego #PalmSprings #BigBear
