I released the following statement following Governor Sherrill’s Budget Address.

Governor Sherrill's budget tackles our fiscal challenges head on by cutting the deficit nearly in half while protecting relief for working families. The proposal reduces spending by more than $2 billion, takes on corporations like pharmacy benefit managers, and holds big tech accountable when they target our kids. At the same time, it protects vital property tax relief programs like StayNJ and ANCHOR and makes the full pension payment. I commend the Governor for putting forward an aggressive and responsible budget that keeps New Jersey focused affordability and long term stability.

My budget is an affordability budget – rooted in fairness for hardworking families.

It answers first to people around their kitchen tables, not in the boardroom or the backroom.

It lays the groundwork to expand opportunity, and tackle even harder problems in the years ahead.

Today, I voiced my opposition directly to @Sec_Noem regarding DHS’s plan for an ICE facility in Roxbury. The lack of transparency, projected strain on our community, and inhumane conditions in these detention facilities are unacceptable. We will use every tool at our disposal to protect New Jerseyans.

Proud to stand with @GovSherrillNJ It’s time to challenge the status quo. New Jersey families are working hard and they deserve to feel the return on their investment. We have to rein in unnecessary spending and stay laser-focused on affordability across New Jersey. That means scrutinizing every dollar and asking a simple question: does this put our residents first? So happy to see this Governor lead on this issue.

Naming a new @NJSP superintendent has long been fraught for governors— trying to balance the organization’s resistance to change with the need for reform. That @GovSherrillNJ has found in Jeanne Hengemuhle a leader broadly praised by everyone is no small feat.
