@HalversonLaurie In HoCo we’ve had large increases in student needs— special education, English-language learners, and students experiencing poverty. Bet it’s same with MoCo. Helping those students while maintaining services for others costs money.

The Montgomery County teacher's union president appeals once again this time of year for full funding of the education budget without saying what they will do with the money that is any different than the year before. He asks the County Council to "defy gravity." Well, let's really defy gravity for once by demanding we get back to good old fashioned core academics & rewarding teachers for merit instead of funding failure over & over again with dismal results. bethesdamagazine.com/2025/03/29/opi…

iac.mdschoolconstruction.org/?p=11158 #HoCoMD council member does and end around to avoid #APFO committee input on bill to remove school overcrowding tests, yet launches into a State vs Local student yield change push in order to benefit a single developer.

Sorry @BaltimoreBanner , I realize you spoke with the BOE chair— I just think it’s obvious she’s too much of a political animal.

A poorly designed bill that doesn’t penalizes people who don’t live where they work. It takes overcounty control of development decisions by making them justify narrow criteria for rejection. Lawmakers who support the Blueprint should reject this for what it does to schools.
Governor Wes Moore@GovWesMoore

Maryland’s economy is only as good as its workforce. But when people can’t afford to live where they work, businesses struggle to hire, and communities suffer. Our Housing for Jobs Act makes it easier and faster to build more housing, which will help lower housing costs.

March 20th public input for HoCo’s budget If you have questions about how to testify, happy to help. You can ask for anything. Me? We need the funds that Howard County Public School System is asking for, or else there will be cuts like last year.
Howard County Gov't@HoCoGov

@normalcyisok I agree with you. Some of it goes to support people who have food-insecurity, but the rest into the general fund.

They talk about health from sugar consumption but then they tax artificial sweeteners— people who are trying to do better by not using sugar. Also, 2 cents per ounce is a huge amount that adds up quickly. baltimoresun.com/2025/03/07/mar…
