“Why am I gaining weight in menopause when I’m eating less?” A client asked me this during a check-in last month. She was skipping meals, doing cardio, and still gaining fat. The truth is, cutting calories and adding more exercise will backfire after you turn 40. Here’s the exact protocol I gave her (she’s now down 9 lbs in 5 weeks): 1. Eat protein within 60 minutes of waking → Signals safety and tells your body it’s okay to burn fat. 2. Strength train 3x/week, no HIIT → Preserves muscle (and metabolism) and balances cortisol. 3. Avoid low-fat snacks and eat real meals → Fat and protein stabilize blood sugar + hormones. 4. Get 8k+ steps per day, mostly outside → Movement + daylight are crucial for metabolic functioning. 5. Stop grazing all day → Constant eating = constant insulin = fat storage. 6. Prioritize 8 hours of deep, uninterrupted sleep → This is when your body burns fat, and it helps support healthy hormones. 7. Remember: your metabolism runs on signals, not effort. → You must pay attention to the signals you're sending your body.

This sounding out and recoding is absolute 🎶 to my ears! Kids used to sound much smoother when they were following a pattern & guessing using pictures - no sounding out necessary when you aren't really reading! - but this is exactly what we want to hear! Shared w permission.

As Teacher Appreciation week nears, understand we have a teacher shortage because we have an attrition crisis. Teachers are leaving in droves because they don’t feel supported, valued, & they are simply burnt out. We need to take care of our teachers more than one week a year.
