The hereditary were the last link to historical meaning of the chamber - and idea of a House of “Lords”. The last peers were also some of the most hard-working, public spirited and committed members - particular on non-urban issues. Their removal needs now to lead to a much more fundamental rethink of the composition of the House - appointments focused on merit and independence not political patronage.

Codswallop from Starmer - we never said we’d ‘join’ US strikes on Iran, but that like Australia & others supported action because of the nuclear threat. We DID consistently say we would have permitted the US to use our bases - a position the PM now holds after yet another u-turn.

Our lack of capability therefore, cannot be the fault of the current government who would not have had time to fix this.

It wasn't about the maintenance - obviously vital - it's about readiness to meet a threat. We were supposed to have 12 such ships, but the order for the rest was cancelled. To then dither about the order to sail was reprehensible. Maintenance normally takes six weeks because the dockyard only works 9 to 5. They did it this fast only by working around the clock. Great work. But they need to review their working practices if we have so few ships.

HMS Dragon was in dry dock for routine maintenance and re-loading, having been on exercises last year. This cycle normally takes six weeks. it was turned it around in six days. Don’t be such a cunt.

It might be that one or 2 are peers or religious leaders, but they should not be selected because they are peers or religious leaders.
