2/3 Sierra Leone 🇸🇱 now joins other Spotlight Programme countries tackling violence against women and girls through stronger laws, prevention, survivor-based response services & women-led movements.

🧵1/3 We are excited to join government leaders, the @EUinSierraLeone, @UN partners, civil society, and survivors to launch the #SpotlightInitiative—a global UN-EU partnership to end all forms of violence against women and girls.

We joined @IcelandinSalone, @mohs_sl & @Cuamm on a joint visit to Barbara CHC to witness progress in its renovation & the delivery of essential medical equipment under our partnership to end obstetric fistula. The facility will enhance maternal & newborn care for 6,000+ people.

In the panel “From the Margins to Leadership,” our OiC @smululuma, emphasized that @UNFPA’s work is grounded in the lived experiences of survivors. From prevention to recovery, we ensure survivors are not only heard but lead the way in shaping responses to GBV & harmful practices

Yesterday, we joined @Stats_SL & @IrlEmbFreetown for a strategic roundtable dialogue on the 2026 Population & Housing Census. The discussion centred on aligning development partners' support for a credible, inclusive & well-resourced digital #PHC2026.

We participated in 🇸🇱’s Census Advisory Committee meeting—the top body guiding the 2026 Population & Housing Census. Made up of MDAs, CSOs, political parties, IRC, security sector & dev partners, the Committee provides oversight to ensure inclusive, accurate & dev-driven Census.

🧵1/4 @UNFPA 🇸🇱 is proud to participate in the National Health Summit in Freetown, led by @mohs_sl. Held under the theme, “Improving Health Outcomes for All: Every Sierra Leonean Matters,” & rooted in the Life Stages Approach.

At the National Health Summit, our RHCS Technical Specialist @ggshogo facilitated a powerful session on strengthening Sierra Leone’s public health supply chain—spotlighting digital innovations, local capacity, and strategies to ensure equitable access to essential commodities.

This week, we partnered with @stats_sl to hold Cartographic Mapping Master Trainers' training for the upcoming Population &Housing Census. This exercise will help delineate boundaries for admin units, facilitating organised data collection & ensuring full coverage of the Census.
