Unfortunately - Hazeron is still closed source. I would really love for someone to take Haxus’s dream project and bring it to more people. It definitely had promise.

The other issues is there were several features not fully completed or half-baked. We still loved it for the exploration and really fucking funny fights. I could ramble all day about them including the time someone woke Haxus up middle of night to bitch about a fight.

The cons? Since this was made in a CAD program, the actual networking was rough. Sometimes players got stuck in loading screens and needed a GM to get them out of it. A known issue coined as Limbo. Half the time it required a server reboot to fix.

Haxus was not a traditional game developer. He did Hazeron in his spare time as a hobby. He made this well known to us. This had its own pros and cons.

I have an serious soft spot for space games. One in particular was an MMO that me and several friends of mine used to play called Shores Of Hazeron. I miss it terribly. If I had to describe it, It would be Star Citizen on cocaine. The playerbase definitely was.

Hazeron went above that and focused on an entire fucking universe. It had empire building and kinda a EVE online-ish experience. You could also make your own ships and buildings. The first designer was more easier for new players. The second? It’s a 3d modeler but space.

So bit of storytime - Hazeron was made by a guy who went by Haxus. It was in development for since early 2000s out of a CAD program. It started out as an RTS game that more or less focused on a solar system. He sold it online at one point.

@doomspoons The fact that a Facepunch dev called the 3080 low spec and somehow the other branches of Source 2 run circles around it even on low spec hardware is what got me. Literally Alyx has better performance and ITS RENDERING THE GAME TWICE FOR VR.

The s&box situation is horribly depressing, I had early access and yeah. Not good. Writing was on the wall years ago. I don’t get why all this dev time went to making new assets when you had the entire asset repository of RUST to make shit from that carries the similar grungy…

@omegasoftware99 Kinda weird. You sure you never been on a Superior community server? Their maps have some LUA script that is attached to the map that checks to see if it's the same address as the box that hosts it.

Also, marketing as a successor to Garry's Mod is kinda ehhhhhhhhhhh. It's a Source 2 kit akin to Roblox. People will get the wrong idea.

To start with, I was hoping FP had fixed some of the optimization issues that plagued the preview. Doesn't appear so. I was using S&Box to learn mapping in S&Box and constantly had issues with S&Box's version of Hammer, just either crashing or being extremely unstable.

Yeah, sadly, I can't recommend S&box even if you're a developer. I'm extremely disappointed in Facepunch. I was in the technical preview since the beginning raffle, and honestly, I don't feel like they've given the love it needs. It seems they are fully aware of it, too.

@hoomstved @king_of_games34 People don’t understand how bad Crystal Tools was. Every game that used it, they put the cart ahead of the horse. They spent more time scrambling to finish features on it than anything else. Supposedly they started making assets ahead of time which caused a few issues.

@king_of_games34 it was the netcode and UI scripting, netcode is still shit but got bandaid over time to be mostly playable most of the time, new engine is better than Crystal Tools aside from graphics, some downgrades are by choice like no inertia and snappiness over animations, barrel is a lie

While the draw distance is awful, it is always amazing to see how much better vanilla XIV looked. Even though it was directly because of that, that it made the game an unplayable mess.
