Cheri Burke (left) is the superintendent who has been under fire since her previous post in a school district several towns over. 1) A community member was informed that Burke's contract was amended - and she was given a significant raise and benefits boost - WITHOUT the approval or vote of the board, despite both the law and the contract stipulations. It's worth noting that Granby just REJECTED the proposed school budget and is demanding cuts. 2) The addendum giving Burke the raise was secretly signed by Logan on June 30, 2025. Logan is an attorney and knows all about how contracts and laws work. Apparently she doesn't care. 3) A review of all publicly available Board of Finance meeting minutes shows no recorded vote authorizing it. Three separate people reviewed all 2025 minutes. 4) The addendum itself cites the Section 3A provision requiring a board vote — acknowledging the requirement. There was an executive session that a previous board member attended - but there was no public vote recorded in the minutes. 6) The date field on the addendum was left blank. 7) Monica Logan never responded to a direct written inquiry asking for confirmation a vote occurred (Wednesday, 4/22). Logan resigned two days after (Friday, 4/24) that inquiry landed. 8) Heather Lombardo, the acting chair of the board since the resignation, received the original email to Logan with no response so therefore an official FOIA was created. 9) Lombardo now admits on record that past practices of the board are being review by their legal team. 10) It's believed that she's going to try and "right" this with a secretive board vote NEXT WEEK that would effectively hide and codify the crime. Important points to note: - Any retroactive ratification would legally need to be done in a properly noticed public meeting with full transparency — it cannot be slipped through quietly. -The financial harm to taxpayers from the unauthorized payments already made cannot simply be undone by a retroactive vote. -Retroactive ratification may not even be legally valid under Connecticut law depending on the circumstances. -The community should be prepared to demand at any such meeting that Burke return compensation received above her previously authorized salary during the period the addendum lacked proper authorization. FIRED? There are numerous clauses in Burke's contract that allow for her termination - TWO of them are applicable: -Inefficiency or incompetence. -Moral code of conduct. Burke knew the law and the clause. She accepted the massive increases anyway in what can only be described as a secretive and fraudulent transaction that came at the expense of taxpayers.
