I know this will be a hot take with some, but Self ID for trans people was legitimately the worst thing that ever happened to our civil rights movement.
It paved the way for people who had zero business being out in public as their preferred gender as it allowed people to do so with little effort given in trying to pass.
Its created terrible optics issues that the Right absolutely clings to as examples of "men in women's spaces."

There's no good civic argument for the electoral college. It was arguably necessary to ensure the ratification of the Constitution, but it's an anti-democratic device that gives some American citizens far more voting power than others, based purely on where they live.
