@DarnayTripp The hot take is we’ve already seen enough of Souza as hitting coach. This team starts games unprepared and allows quality starts by average starters, I think they have allowed 20 QS. If all your big contracts are underperforming someone has to take responsibility.

Need a hot take for Sports Night - don't have anything I feel that strongly about, so I figured I'd give you a chance. Share your 🌶️hottest🌶️ Padres (or San Diego sports) take and we'll give a shout out to the best one on tonight's show.

@CFahrenthold11 I would argue the late game performance is due for natural regression and the rest of the game the team seems unprepared. They routinely allow starters to have quality starts against them and that’s not a good look for a new hitting coach.

Lotta frustration, and understandably so, with the Padres' offense; however, they continue to be exceptional late in games. During High-Leverage ABs in the 7th inning or later, SD's owns a: 170 wRC+, 1st in MLB 1.023 OPS, 1st in MLB .349 BA, 1st in MLB

Six innings of two-run ball for Walker Buehler. After some early-season struggles, he's become a completely adequate back-of-the-rotation starter. Problem is, the way the Padres are swinging it, feels like they're asking every pitcher to be perfect. It's 2-0 Cardinals after 6.

@JMAC_Baseball Ya not sure what this take is about. What proof do you have that Souza is good? If your title is hitting coach and your players ain’t hitting, your job is in trouble, not very complicated

Padres Twitter crying to fire Souza. 😆 Its not Souza. Its the core players and inability to conform or adjust. VRod left and Hou is just fine 3rd in avg, 5th in HRs and 6th in ops with them. Its not the hitting coach. Period.

@sdutKevinAcee When you hire a new hitting coach in the offseason and all your stars immediately underperform, when does enough become enough? If your title is hitting coach and Tatis and Merrill are performing like they are, shouldn’t your job be in hot water?

@AJCassavell Hard to play baseball when you don’t hit the ball into the air. Groundballs all night. Like watching golfers on the green but baseball

Final: Cardinals 2, Padres 1 The Padres scored a run on two hits in the first. They wouldn't put a runner into scoring position the rest of the night. Michael King was excellent -- but was lifted after just 84 pitches in favor of Bradgley Rodriguez, who allowed the go-ahead run.

@TooMuchMortons_ Stammen a lazy ass manager. Top of 9th, 1 run game. Leaves Castellanos in right field, instead of putting Song at second and Tatis in right. Not sure you can win big games when you aren’t playing with much strategy

@AJCassavell Stammen several times per week refuses to pinch hit Fermin in a clutch situation late in games. Today he was bailed out by France but he does not seem to manage baseball with much situational awareness.

Looked like the Padres weren't ready to pinch-hit for Sung-Mun Song after the Giants went to left-hander Matt Gage. Song was at the plate before Ty France emerged from the dugout, and the Padres had to take a pitch-clock violation just to get France to the plate.

@Padres_Burner69 There are multiple signs that our hitting coach is a failure including the regression of all of our core players, the lack of preparation to hit starting pitching, the decline in launch angle. I think we've seen enough sample size to know something doesn't feel right

@TooMuchMortons_ In this game top of 8th. Down 2 runs. Doesn’t pinch hit for Fermin or Crone. Just a lazy use of this roster.

@TooMuchMortons_ They insist on him getting the majority of the playing time and have refused to hit for him several times late in games. Using a defense first catcher is acceptable if your main hitters hit. However , if they’re don’t you can’t afford more holes in the lineup.

@TooMuchMortons_ @SDFiremansam He has no confidence and is lost, but this season the entire core other than Xander is underperforming. I think it’s fair to question the hiring of Souza even this many games into the season. Getting back Tatis is more important than any trade deadline acquisition

@lonestarfriar Yup this is incompetence. They are also basically using a 7 man lineup by hitting Fermin and Crone back to back. Dont get why they are stuck in their ways

@Padres So we are making no changes to the top of lineup despite scoring 4 first inning runs the whole season? We are also just going to continue to play Camp twice a week when this team is offensively challenged? Got it! Very Padres!!

@jonschaeffer This team is managed in an incredibly lazy manner. Twice in this game 4th and 7th Stammen had a chance to pinch hit for our two worst hitter (Fermin and Crone). But he does nothing. Very frustrating to watch and ruins the point of having bats on the bench
