At the end of the day a job is a job and your boss is stealing the surplus value of your labor. Never feel any allegiance towards them and don't believe them when they say you're a family. Take care of yourself and do what it takes to survive, you can always do good elsewhere.

@ahouse4all I’ll never forget the job I had where they always refused to let me use “wellness time” they provided (bc they “weren’t like those greedy corporate jobs”) My insufferable boss played guitar regularly while we drown in work & lack of proper staffing. I was paid $9/hr. No raises.

My advice to young college kids aspiring to work at non-profits: Don't. Go work for a soulless corporation that pays you in real money and has a decent work life balance and volunteer with a mutual aid org on your own time. These non profits are good person soul sucking vampires.

Autistic kids might not be motivated by the same rewards as their non-autistic peers. Golden time? No thanks, too unstructured and loud. Lunch with the headteacher? No thanks, too stressful to maintain a conversation. Consider that the ‘rewards’ might actually be stressful.
