The standoff at the Strait of Hormuz is showing us a few things. According to available records, It provides the only sea passage from the Persian Gulf to the open ocean and is one of the world's most strategically important choke points. Records said between 2023–2025, 20% of the world's liquefied natural gas (LNG) and 25% of seaborne oil trade passed through the strait annually. So the 2 questions I have is this. If the strait provides passage for just 20-25% of seaborne oil trade, why has it impacted international oil trade and prices this badly? Secondly, after all the noise of clean energy and how the world is leaving crude oil for cleaner energy, why is everyone complaining about the inability to move crude oil? Or are we just being deceived? Some smart Alec once said “after all said and done, crude oil remains the king”. Is the someone right after all?

Everything Egypt did in its power sector was what Nigeria attempted to do in 2024. Egypt got a $25bn loan to fix power, cut subsidies aggressively and created tariff and consumption bands. Egypt has 7 bands with the aim of moving eventually to a cost reflective system and introduce cash subsidies for low income consumers. Egypt still has about 40% metering gap. And about 12m customers still get physical readings and estimated bills. Nobody is going to give Nigeria $25bn loan. That's 37.5trn Naira. We don't have rich Arab friends even if we pledge the entire oil in the Niger Delta. We have to mobilise private capital and that won't happen until we address the market fundamentals. There is no magic is developmental economics. As you lay your bed, you lie on it.

Baban Chinedu says Pastor Ezekiel Dachomo is a former Armed robber now turned crises entrepreneur By: Zagazola Makama Sheikh Yusuf Haruna Baban Chinedu, popularly known as Baban Chinedu, has launched a scathing and evidence-based attack on controversial Plateau pastor Ezekiel Dachomo in a viral video, accusing him of being a former armed robber and a liar who fabricated stories about meeting Jesus after a 1980 bank robbery in Jos. Baban Chinedu declared: “Ezekiel Dachomo isn't just someone seen in a photo with a bandit; no, he is the bandit! … Ezekiel committed armed robbery. We have records on him from 1976, from '76 to sometime after 2000. … This man is a hardened armed robber.” He played a clip of Dachomo admitting: “Because I went in 1980 is our gang that robbed a bank in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria. 1980, they make away with a lot of money. It was my best friend that led the operation.” Baban Chinedu challenged: “Praise be to God, I hope you all heard the statement this man made. … He is lying! I want you to listen and know that first of all, this man is a complete hypocrite and a total liar. I swear, it was a gun that shot them! Angels? He claims Jesus came down with seven angels who struck them and killed fourteen people while he hid in the blood? You see, even the angels God sent down… only managed to kill fourteen people and lost track of where that one man was?” The sheikh alleged Dachomo hid among corpses and was rescued by a gang member named Emmanuel, not Jesus: “He was begging Jesus for God’s sake to forgive him and spare his life. He claims that was where he met Jesus… By Allah, he is lying! … It was a gun that shot them! No Jesus descended there; he is lying to you.” He added: “A lady told me; she heard him when he was shot, and he still has the scar from that wound on his left side. … He is lying! At that time, it was the police, Nigerian security agents, Nigeria Police MOPOL who she said shot them.” Baban Chinedu accused Dachomo of transitioning from “practical, street-level bandit” to “spiritual bandit” and inciting religious conflict: “The armed bandits of the past are the ones who transformed into these kidnappers. … All those who are making these plans are your boys… You’re insulting her religion, she told us the truth about everything that happened… You are a robber, and the government should investigate you; you’re behind all of this.” He challenged Dachomo to court: “Ezekiel, I, Yusuf Haruna Baban Chinedu, challenge you: if you know there's any falsehood in what's being said about you, take it to court.” The sheikh demanded investigation: “We want the government if possible to investigate this man, I swear to God he's an armed robber… By Allah, the government should know that Ezekiel is involved in this. Let him tell you the names of those he robbed with.” The viral video has ignited fierce online reactions, with many praising Baban Chinedu’s evidence-based approach while others condemn the personal attacks on Dachomo, intensifying Nigeria’s ongoing religious and ethnic tensions occasioned by US recent remarks on Christians genocide propaganda.

This news article prompted me to look back at our budget from 2003 - 2005. 2003 budget - N765bn. 63% recurrent expenditure. Nepa debt - N42bn ( 5.4% of budget ) Petrol subsidy - N70bn ( 9.1% of budget ) Petrol subsidy was funded from under recovery and deductions by NNPC before FAAC remittance. 2005 Budget - N1.79trn budget. 68% recurrent expenditure. Petrol subsidy had jumped to N321bn which was 20% of the budget and 27% of the estimated revenue. Petrol subsidy payment was more than 50% of the capital budget. NEPA debt had accumulated additional N50bn.

Bob Dee is not really a reliable political analyst. He often gets carried away by his emotions and personal preferences, and then presents them as sound judgment. As an avid reader of his column for decades, I still remember when he wrote on his back page in 2008 that Barack Obama should step down in the Democratic primaries and accept to be running mate to Hillary Clinton. Thank God Obama wasn’t reading his column. Obama went on to defeat Hillary 😀and then became President. Egbon Bob Dee, Bola Ahmed Tinubu will defeat any candidate you put against him — before 1pm. E wa bet e.🤷🏻‍♂️Oya

Dele Momodu asks ADC to zone presidential ticket to north, says ‘@atiku my preferred candidate’ Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation magazine and a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has asked the party to zone its presidential ticket to the north ahead of the 2027 elections. Speaking on Wednesday during his appearance on The Morning Show, a programme on Arise TV, Momodu said the ADC must adopt a strategic approach to defeat the All Progressives Congress (ADC) in 2027.  thecable.ng/dele-momodu-as…

They kidnap people, collect ransom from their families, and still kill them! Imo State has arrested some gangs of kidnappers who deal in kidnapping across Igbo land. They often kill their victims after collecting ransom from their families. They were caught in Rivers State and brought back to Imo State.

Had a sweaty minute in court today 😂 the judge took me up again on why I brought an application to serve a company through its director when the Defendant is a company. Can you serve a company through substituted means? I said no my lord, I am not serving the company through substituted means but I am serving the director as provided by the rules, since it’s impossible to deliver to the director personally. I need a court order to send to him through WhatsApp and which does not mean serving the company through substituted means as forbidden in Mark v Eke. Moreso, I didn’t bring my application under the provision for substituted means as contained in the rules. Then she said Oya tell me the difference between personal service and substituted service. Na so I begin dey lecture dey cite authorities. I opened my rules and I submitted to allow me move my application. Added that if the director comes out to now say it’s improper service, I can just hand the processes over to him and that will constitute good and proper service. She just smiled 😀 and said counsel: proceed to move your application. I moved and she granted it.
