🎶The Carol of the Bells began as a Ukrainian folk song called Shchedryk (pronounced 'Shedrik'): composed over a century ago to celebrate hope and prosperity. Today its hypnotic melody is known around the world at Christmas time.
But this year, from the wreckage of a Ukrainian power plant destroyed by russia, Shchedryk has become a symbol of our resilience. After a brief break to film the Svitlo Concert ('Light Concert') choir, our repair crews picked up their tools and resumed work to restore power in millions of Ukrainian homes.
Please share this story and support our efforts to defend light in Ukraine this Christmas.

Russia escalates its terror against Ukraine and this needs to get a strong response from our allies.
For the first time, more than 800 (!) drones and missiles overnight. Civilians killed and injured, civilian infrastructure damaged in Kyiv, Odesa, Kremenchuk, Kryvyi Rih, Zaporizhzhia, among other cities.
For the first time since the beginning of full-scale war, Russia damaged the Ukrainian Government building in Kyiv. This alone is a serious escalation.
The greatest cynicism is that these brutal attacks come just as President Trump makes every effort to achieve peace. But instead of reciprocating these efforts and agreeing to a leaders’ meeting, Putin rejects diplomacy and escalates terror.
Only pressure on Moscow can end its escalation of terror. The Russian war machine runs on oil and gas revenues. We urge our allies to defund it in order to end the war.
Russian terror “anti-records” require strong responses. New severe sanctions on Russia and new strengthening for Ukraine, particularly in air defense. Waiting will not bring results—action is needed now.

Russia’s combined strike on Kyiv left death and destruction.
At least eight people, including one child, were killed. More than 30 others sustained injuries of varying severity, including at least five children aged 7 to 17. Russia hit residential areas as well as a shopping mall in the city center.

The horrors of the nights and the last couple of days that have followed them here in Ukraine, and the world's reaction to them, makes me think of how pervasivly evil becomes banal and how this pervasive, banal evil eventually leads to a complicity of indifference. The effect of this on achieving peace and a just resolution of this major international armed conflict are devastating. Although apathy is often referred to as indifference, it appears that we are facing a particular type of indifference. It's one of choice rather than one due to a general lack of interest. Some say that indifference is worse than hate. «The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference» (Elie Wiesel). Indifference can be more painful than hate, as hate originates from your enemy, while indifference is a thing rather of friends, partners, nice crowd. Those who happen to forget, overlook your suffering. It “normalizes” suffering, and dehumanizes those who do suffer. Thus indifference is also a betrayal of humanity. That is why indifference is complicity in crime. It’s not something new or rare. Indifference was pervasive pre-WW2 and at least in the initial stages of WW2. It resulted in genocide and the Holocaust then, and in atrocities and genocide in post-WW2 Europe. It is happening right now. Come on! Disagree with me! Raise your voice! Make it loud and clear this weekend! Then I know that you at least are angry, and have the fortitude to match your anger!
