@therealRYC The head twitch has been demonstrated to be a readout of 5HT2A receptor psychedelic potency, not a readout of “psychedelic experiences.” I don’t think it’s possible to evolve on this issue bc we can’t ask mice about their subjective experiences. We test the hypothesis in humans

@sofiyahupalo It’s wild to me that even now, the head twitch response is still the bar for psychedelic experiences in mouse models. I’m not an expert in this space, but has that evolved at all 👀

Very cool structural biology and molecular pharmacology study on psychedelic mechanisms of action. But, I cringe at references to hallucinations in mice, even with qualifiers about limitations of animal models. We need to be more precise in our descriptions of animal behavior!
