After years sharing thoughts on software engineering, I've decided to follow a long-standing passion:
Geopolitics.
AI changed the game—and so did my interests.
This account will now become World Understood, with a new handle and visual identity.

@svpino Code related to complex domains certainly benefits from some well-placed comments.

I used to think that writing comments on your code showed a lack of ability.
Your code must be self-explanatory. Comments are a crutch in many ways. They are hard to maintain, go out of sync easily, and often offer redundant information.
Therefore, I've always spent a lot of time refactoring my code to make it as clear as possible without having to write comments.
But things change, and I no longer have a strong stance on this.
I think that good code should read like a novel, and comments are one tool to achieve that.
Today, I encourage people to write comments. There are still downsides, but the advantages of having a well-commented code far outweigh the disadvantages.
The example code here is a bit overboard and has more comments than I'd normally write because it's for education purposes.

Reading this paper about why TCP might not be the best fit for datacenters. It argues that fundamental issues like stream orientation and sender-driven congestion control make it inefficient. Worth checking out. arxiv.org/pdf/2210.00714
