the Le Fort fracture/osteotomy classification itself is, fittingly, quite literally a tranching hierarchy in the literal sense of tranching (to cut)

if a sliding genioplasty could actually slide back and forth as the name implies it should; you'd call it an ARM (Adjustable Rate Mentoplasty)

if you get a loan for your double-jaw surgery; is the ensuing financial instrument created called a Collateralized Lefort Osteotomy (CLO)?

one of the biggest wrong beliefs of the rat-adjacent/tpot community is "The Sort". it is an extrapolation from "smart conscientious Americans tend to do well" into a law of nature. in reality, meritocracy is an emergent feature of the system, not any sort of individual guarantee

@adrusi i agree that p4's post is bad but there is no "secret career pipeline". it's just selection bias, plenty of interesting smart people fall through the cracks because they're not in the right place at the right time

I contend that normie fears about _sufficiently-capable and autonomous_ AI (it will take all the jobs, runaway data center buildouts will make water land electricity economically inaccessible for mankind, and killer robots end us) seem more correct than "post-scarcity/abundance".

the "AI water use" stuff makes more sense if you see it as inchoate, symbolic, and vulgarly expressed fear, hate, and revulsion towards that which "entire surface of the earth would be covered with solar panels and data centers" describes, and less about literal water use by GPUs
Ben Landau-Taylor@benlandautaylor

Funny how innumerate Gaia worshippers are worried about AI using all the water while technocapitalist singularitarians are worried about AI using all the electricity. Like the Gaians had a perfectly coherent resource constraint RIGHT THERE but they went with the fake one anyway.

People tell me I need to stop living for others and start living my authentic self, and just embrace that instead of trying to repress my true gender. So with that in mind, I’m coming out as a sissy slut. I just ordered some big ole bimbo tits. Thanks to all my supporters 🥰

The idea that people function best when having their whole shit demolished by a tomato timer going off every 25 minutes is just so fucked and crazy, it does not make sense to me that it became the default attention advice

the table photo is taken when you’re still under anesthesia, complete with endotracheal tube dangling between lips, so there’s zero tension or expression or anything else in the face. it’s a uniquely strange genre of face photograph when you think about it.

rhinoplasty table photo: beautiful, serene, the platonic ideal of a nose rhinoplasty healing: reee why doesn't the nose look like the table photo nor the references I gave the guy, this is clearly punishment for the hubris of rejecting what God and my parents gave me.

the real trick is when they post an operating table photo as the "after" because the table photo is immediately after all the work is done but before any swelling has had a chance to happen. Especially with nose work, because noses take on the order or a year to heal
cafebeef@0xCAFEBEEF

cosmetic surgeons are always like "here are the before and afters" and the after is like 2 days after surgery and they're still wildly swollen and bruised
