Just experienced streamable 4D Gaussian Splatting content on Apple Vision Pro… and it's insane 🤯 Seeing life sized volumetric people performing right in my room is kind of mind blowing. It really feels like real humans are standing in front of you. And it streams online just like regular video. No massive downloads. No waiting. Awesome work by @gracia_vr 👏 Apple Vision Pro + Gaussian Splatting is one of the most futuristic things I’ve seen in a long time.

one of the biggest wrong beliefs of the rat-adjacent/tpot community is "The Sort". it is an extrapolation from "smart conscientious Americans tend to do well" into a law of nature. in reality, meritocracy is an emergent feature of the system, not any sort of individual guarantee

Yeah, the more I think about it the more it seems clear that the datacenters, at least as they're currently going up, break some kind of deep social contract & people are keenly aware of it on a gut level even if their state objections are mostly fake nonsense.

I contend that normie fears about _sufficiently-capable and autonomous_ AI (it will take all the jobs, runaway data center buildouts will make water land electricity economically inaccessible for mankind, and killer robots end us) seem more correct than "post-scarcity/abundance".

the "AI water use" stuff makes more sense if you see it as inchoate, symbolic, and vulgarly expressed fear, hate, and revulsion towards that which "entire surface of the earth would be covered with solar panels and data centers" describes, and less about literal water use by GPUs

the real trick is when they post an operating table photo as the "after" because the table photo is immediately after all the work is done but before any swelling has had a chance to happen. Especially with nose work, because noses take on the order or a year to heal
