We put fully on-chain orderbooks in the EVM. And now our private Mainnet executes more gas than the rest of the EVM chains combined. All organic transactions from 1 market maker and ~25 internal traders. Zero spam nonsense. "Why so much gas?" Many asked. We put the whole exchange on-chain; for maximal transparency and composability. Everyone can run a node, index data, and compose. - Unlike FTX, everyone will notice if the exchange ever flirts with insolvency. - Everyone will know which storage slots hold their funds, and that they are indeed included in every state root. - No separate execution environments means the same atomic transaction can connect capitals both in and out of the order books. DeFi money legos! "Good for you, but it's just a centralised Sequencer". Yes, we're still having the training wheels on. However, we do have OP Succinct Lite fully integrated with Fault Proof Live on Mainnet to protect funds, and proper plans to go multi-Sequencers for liveness and censorship resistance. "So, what's next?" - We pack calldata very greedily, so DA usage has been healthy. With more ambitious plans co-scaling further with EigenDA, we have zero concern here. - We spend a ton of effort on novel on-chain data structures and techniques to minimise storage. Nevertheless, being fully on-chain means we still need to store the whole exchange in storage, which is massive. Mainnet is growing 2 GB/day, Testnet is growing 14 GB/day, so there's still time for novel solutions, like investing all of NVMe disks on hot chain state, while sharing more historical data for RPC among nodes via virtual storage and filesystems. - For gas, we'll both increase bandwidth via Parallel EVM and Block Pipeline optimisations, and lower the amount of gas required per user intent via contract optimisations. We're extra excited about Parallel EVM as it will also destroy p99 transaction latency, a nightmare for any sequentially block-building exchange. Curiously, our custom state root solution has been so fast we don't need to worry about merkelisation anymore. Our Testnet's raw chain state size is nearly 200 GB, and yet we only need <30ms to merkelise new 600 Mgas blocks. This allows us to focus hard on Parallel EVM and State Growth in the upcoming quarters. Sustained Ggas/s should and will be the norm with RISE.
