Very excited for this story I reported over the last year for @99piorg to finally be out in the world. It's about the changing nature of the battlefield, the business and labor models that evolve from war, and the uncanny blending of fiction and reality. 99percentinvisible.org/episode/imitat…

Jeff Bezos, who could keep the Wash Post a pillar of American democracy with the change dug out from his limousine seats, sets an example of surrender to authoritarianism for every other business person and institution in America.
Evan A. Feigenbaum@EvanFeigenbaum

The @WashPost has now laid off its Asia editor, its New Delhi bureau chief, its Sydney bureau chief, its Cairo bureau chief, the entire Middle East reporting team, China correspondents, Iran correspondents, Turkey correspondents, and many more. The world is becoming less America-centric by the minute while the United States is becoming more America-centric than ever. It is just a depressing yet somehow perfect summation of our current moment that one of the most important newspapers in the history of the country - one that has actually shaped the history of the United States - doesn't think reporting on the world is of any use anymore. What an utterly perfect encapsulation of where we have arrived.

It's hard to overestimate what's been happening in the United States. This piece draws a strong parallel to Hungary and is worth reading even if you think you already know the answer to this question. newyorker.com/magazine/2025/…

I profiled Kaitlyn Bui, the Bay Area's most popular Dungeness crab fishing influencer (crab-fluencer?), whose videos are INCREDIBLY fun and appealing — and have a particularly huge following among Gen Z girls. kqed.org/arts/13969644/…

Democrats’ recriminations might miss the hardest truth, which is that they’re losing Latinos because they’ve materially failed them. I saw it in Reading, PA. Factories go overseas after Clinton signs NAFTA. It gets even worse under Obama. Then Biden… politico.com/news/magazine/…

>> @mashagessen over at NYT Opinion's live blog: "We may need to stop thinking about a country that’s split down the middle and start trying to understand this country as being dominated by Trumpian politics or, perhaps more accurately, a Trumpian affect."

Wrote about how thoughtful many Arab American and pro-Palestinian voters are being about their votes. If Trump wins by a slim margin, it’s not going to be their fault, as many liberal commentators would like you to believe. 1/2 vox.com/policy/381550/…
