"The only question in post-AGI economics is: what is scarce?" That is Alex Imas (@alexolegimas) from Chicago Booth, opening Season 01 of Post AGI. Over an hour we get into why AI "job exposure" misleads everyone, why the robots are coming for physical work before knowledge work, the economy of human-made goods that survives automation, his case against UBI, and whether agents can run an economy better than markets. Full conversation. Moments worth your time: 04:10 Why "AI exposure" doesn't mean what people think 13:35 The robotic "dark warehouses" being built in China 23:20 The case against UBI 45:35 The only question after AGI: what is scarce? Everyone is worried about jobpocalypse but impact of AI on a given job depends on whether the job is low-dimensional or high-dimensional. Companies are far more motivated to automate jobs with fewer tasks (low-dimensionality) because successful automation allows them to eliminate the entire labor sector for that role, resulting in greater cost savings. In contrast, high-dimensional jobs, where only a few tasks can be automated, would still require human labor, making the investment case for total automation less attractive. @alexolegimas has written detailed explanation of this dependency on the dimensionality of a job in his article aleximas.substack.com/p/how-will-ai-….

Quoting @alexolegimas, the only question that matters in Post-AGI economics is "what is scarce?". "Is relational capital the scarce element? Is it provenance? Is human attention still going to be scarce element? is agents having ownership puts economy in a completely uncharted trajectory?" See the full episode on @PostAGIxyz to learn more.

The trillion-dollar question: can LLMs model the whole economy and come out with the right policies? @alexolegimas on @postagixyz explains why that won't work. The people who would be most excited about AI running the economy are those who are willing to take rights of the people and give it to agents.

A lot of people hate AI right now, and I don't think it's irrational. The best models are gated behind a price most people can't pay, they get the outdated versions which give sloppy output which eventually led them to conclude the whole thing is a scam. I asked @alexolegimas on PostAGI: "Is this the job for the government to step in to ensure benefits of AI are uniformly distributed, or should we let the labs fix it themselves through free markets?" He lands firmly on one side.

Post AGI podcast, launching today! Opening episode with Prof. Alex Imas. Seen recently on the Dwarkesh podcast. This episode was recorded and edited when Alex was a professor at Chicago Booth (hes now at Google DeepMind). He is an economist who has thought deeply about the impact of AGI on the economy. It’s a privilege for us to open the show with Alex. A must watch!

we're officially pareto dominant on every frontier. we have the fastest and most resource efficient algorithm to break bitcoin. i want to thank all the contributors who made this possible. we publicly went from 88% of google's result to 43.9% ahead of their result. this is the power of open innovation!!!

Coordination Post-AGI: Talk at Manifest. AGI is reconfiguring the nature of power, and the AI labs are centrally consolidating this power. Coordination through open networks is the only counterforce. From markets to democracy to the scientific commons, our most durable institutions have been systems of open coordination. We believe AGI, the same technology that is used for concentration, can be a superpower for coordination. We are building open networks for the foundational layers of AI: agentic research, inference infrastructure, and capital formation. Our mission is to maximize individual agency post-AGI.

AGI is here. But its arrival is not shared. The future is being built in a small number of buildings, by a small number of people, and they are turning intelligence into a permissioned empire. What comes after touches your job, your money, your privacy, your political power. It is about whether the rest of us gets to maintain our agency at all. It doesn't have to be this way. I sat down with seven people who have been thinking about this hard: economists, political scientists, builders. PostAGI. First episode drops next week.

darkbloom is your best shot against a feudalistic world where few hyperscalers and model creators decide what access you should have. our sole objective with darkbloom, distributed autoresearch and others eigen labs initiatives is to preserve and accelerate individual agency. at all costs.
