Wow! A blind snake (Indotyphlops braminus I think) feeding on ant brood. These snakes are completely subterranean, so you can’t really observe them in the wild. They’re specialized predators of ants and termites and, evidently, they look really weird when they eat. Ant 🐜 🐍 🐜

飼育中のブラーミニメクラヘビ。 捕食場面を動画で撮影しましたが、何度見ても不思議な食べ方をします。 まるで掃除機のように、スルスルと吸い込まれるように口の中へ入っていきます。 blog.livedoor.jp/antroom/archiv…

@sourvive Acceptable phrases: "an R&B song" or "R&B music" with no article, or "an R&B music history" where music becomes a modifier noun.

@sourvive Hello, I'm a PhD student in the US and my girlfriend sent me your quiz. Music is an uncountable noun so you don't use the "an" article. Nobody says "an r&b music."

I talk about how ornithology is an important part of modern biology, but I didn't have any data to back this up so I categorized the taxonomic focus of 2448 articles from 2022/2023 from 10 general eco/evo journals among verts, birds come in first not bragging if its true

@ShaneFs5cents If I answer enough of these will I inadvertently increment my trust in shady questions asking me to part with my money to the point that I'm more likely to get street hustled

An urn contains six marbles, which are red or green. (All seven possibilities are equally likely). You pick a color & win $100 if you draw that color. What would you pay to see all six marbles (which you replace) before shaking the urn, declaring your color & picking a marble?

Thrilled to share a *NEW PRE-PRINT* I’ve been working on for the last few years! @IDsignals, W. Freiwald, and I describe the neural correlates of individual facial recognition in a social wasp, Polistes fuscatus. biorxiv.org/content/10.110… 1/10

@WKCosmo I saw a post about a plane on a treadmill the other day that suggests we might not even have to go off-planet to find different laws of physics and math.

The complex social behavior of ants has fascinated humans for centuries, but only now is it becoming possible to study ant behavior at the neural circuit level. New review with @Dom_Frank3 in @AnnualReviews: The Budding Neuroscience of Ant Social Behavior annualreviews.org/content/journa…

@mfgrp However, the true value is in work similar to Dr. Fischbach's article in Cell. The role it plays is closer to how to be a facilitator in the spaces you find yourself in; arbitrary policy goals are important, but I feel it is far from the most good that could be done with it.
