The Teen Literature Festival might be over, but we are still remembering all of the events that took place throughout the month of November. In celebration of the One County One Book, Secondary School students were invited to Vertigo at Cork County Hall for book discussion with the author of ‘Freya Harte is Not Puzzle’, Méabh Collins. And what a day it was! We’ve had Deputy Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Martin Coughlan and Senior Executive Librarian Elizabeth Desmond, who gave inspiring speeches to our young readers. But the main star of the day was Méabh Collins herself who gave very interesting presentation on her writing history and overall process of writing a book. We want to thank everyone that attended this lovely venue especially the students and teachers. #TeenLiteratureFestival #OneCountyOneBook #MeabhCollins #freyaharteisnotapuzzle @Corkcoco @creativeirl @LibrariesIrl @OBrienPress

Inniu, bhí ár gcéad ceann de ár imeachtaí One County One Book ar líne againn leis an údar Éireannach Méabh Collins. ‘Sé 'Freya Harte is Not a Puzzle' an chéad úrscéal a scríobh Méabh agus is scéal suimiúil agus íogaireacht é faoi thaithí chailín uathach sna déaga. Labhair Méabh faoina próiseas scríbhneoireachta agus thug sí leideanna spreagúla do dhaltaí maidir leis an scríbhneoireacht. Bhaineamar go léir an-taitneamh as aithne a chur ar Méabh agus táimid ag súil go mór í a fheiceáil arís in imeachtaí níos déanaí sa mhí. Tá cóipeanna de 'Freya Harte is not a Puzzle' ar fáil ó do bhrainse leabharlann áitiúla agus ó leabharlanna taistil Chontae Chorcaí. Today, we had our first One County One Book online event with the Irish author Méabh Collins. ‘Freya Harte is Not a Puzzle’ is Méabh’s first novel and is a touching and captivating story about the experiences of an autistic teenage girl. Méabh spoke about her writing process and she gave encouraging tips to students on writing. We all enjoyed getting to know Méabh and we’re looking forward to see her again in future events. Copies of ‘Freya Harte is not a Puzzle’ are available from our Cork County Library branches and mobiles. #TeenLiteratureFestival2024 #OneCountyOneBook #YoungAdultReads @soundslikewave @creativeirl @HealthyIreland @Corkcoco @LibrariesIre @OBrienPress

Emily is in Paris…and Freya is in Bordeaux! We are still travelling with our favourite YA read ‘Freya Harte is not a Puzzle’ by Méabh Collins. This time we took Freya to South West of France, to a sunny Bordeaux. There were many places to visit and even more to sit down and relax with a good book! Place de la Bourse, Porte Caihau, Pont de Pierre and Basilique Saint-Michel are only few out of many places to see in this beautiful city. ‘Freya Harte is Not a Puzzle’ is our chosen ‘One County, One Book’ this year and we enjoyed reading it all summer. One County One Book is part of Teen Literature Festival in autumn which introduces young people in County Cork to Irish authors, both of which are supported by Creative Ireland. Why commercial fiction is an ideal place for social activism. Commercial fiction's reputation, structures and popular appeal mean it's an ideal medium to conduct social activism, writes @MariabButler @UCC @IrishResearch rte.ie/brainstorm/202…

We caught up with Caroline Busher to discuss her literary influences, writing process, and how historical fiction can help to connect young readers to their past. image.ie/?_ppp=5e3d0690…
