"have you considered MAiD?" Brent had diabetes and a heart condition, but his loving wife took care of him and made sure he was receiving the medical attention he needed. One day they went for care to a wound clinic after he developed a painful heal crack on the bottom of his foot. At this stage it was small, only approx. 1 cm. “You might just see a small wound, but I see gangrene.”, Dr Y said. Then after a couple minutes of discussion he stated, “Many people in this situation opt for MAiD”. That suggestion was brushed off as appalling and ridiculous, but his wife Marie recounts, "it would not be the last time Brent was faced with offers to end his life". In early October 2024 Brent was admitted to Victoria General Hospital and had to stay for a month while they tried to treat the foot. He even had hay delivered for a donkey when he found out the owner… one of his neighbours… couldn't afford to feed it. He’s found jobs for people, he’s found missing family members, he’s found things people need and can’t afford, everything from furniture to expensive medical items. He has a soft spot for seniors, children and animals and he strongly believes that nobody should ever go hungry in a country as rich as ours and he is passionately driven to ensure that no one does.
