Wondered what that building was. Imagine if it actually said "Railway Station" on it...
scoot!@ScootFoundation
I love Wellington Station
English

@Cameron78588471 @publicaddress I used to be annoyed that I did this. And then I realised that actually I was saying thank you for not killing me this time. Gotta bank some good will with the overlords
English

@vburbandesign She'll be right.
Close enoughs good enough anyway... And you can still park your car
English

@rakugonz Ooooo there must be some exclusive goods there for the anniversary.
I've been there far too many times. And love it every time!
English

@Nicolas_Reid I love those Japanese ones! They also come in apology form and also other characters!
English

@HaydenDonnell It's not practical but a fun budget would be one that can only be changed proportionate to the number of voters who voted. I've if only 10% voted elected officials can only change 10% of the budget
Would encourage bipartisan encouragement to vote

One interesting fact about our current local government system is that it produces institutionally racist gerontocracies and these sorts of statistics are wholly predictable metromag.co.nz/society/the-ca…

@Dumbas61007425 @theurbanroom @chamfy @resene_nz @BoffaMiskell @NWOrakei Funnily enough all those issues are the reason for the creation of the model! Ah history sometimes it just wants to slap you in the face with irony
English

@theurbanroom @chamfy @spacesAKL @resene_nz @BoffaMiskell @NWOrakei Love to come along, but the trains aren’t running, buses are useless. I was going to drive in, but the 30kph limit is frustrating. Lots of parking, but it’ll cost me a kidney and I worry about crime. Any chance of holding next meeting at Sylvia Park, I can drive there and park😀
English

@StuartBDonovan In saying all that if you are downtown Auckland just east of wynyard quarter you could catch a bus to mission bay. Which has more park options and a some areas you can wade in the water. Check safeswim first
English

@StuartBDonovan Wynyard quarter has a nice playground lots of events there too.
However from Myers park you would have other playground options by bus or walking.
Western park is 20 min walk with brilliant slides and tree shade. Potters park is a 15 min bus it has a great water park.
English

@nappingsam Also the creperies. Le Garde Manger and Torchon in the central city
English

@adaptreuse @juliefairey Well it could have more... I found it interesting being able to compare the 1939 model, this one and the new 3D printed section. Shows how much the city has changed and makes you appreciate any new developments in the context of the entire city's growth and change
English

@adaptreuse @juliefairey Unfortunately yes. No idea where it is. It contained Anzac ave and there was another section with the Ports of Auckland. No record so far but it could have deteriorated or been taken somewhere else.
English

Model City at @AklLibs Central Library! Someone on here asked for some pics so here’s a thread with a bunch I took on Tuesday. It’s on the ground floor until late July 1/

English

@adaptreuse @juliefairey Well it depends. Are we restoring it or preserving it
And of course how do we pay for it. There isn't really budget in council to repair or preserve it either.
It also needs a permanent home. Somewhere people can appreciate it once it's restored or for it to be restored into
English

@juliefairey One of the reasons it's not in good condition was that it was never really meant to be pristine. It was a tool not a model meaning it was constantly cut into and pulled apart. It's like how a ruler is only a heritage item once no one uses it.
English

@vburbandesign It was a group effort including the Heritage team, Archives, Auckland research centre and the Unique Experiences team. Lots of hands make for a comprehensive display!

#Auckland tweeps. Well worth checking out this model of the city centre’s planned and actual development from the 1980s development boom (inc. some never-built buildings & motorway extensions) on the ground floor of the Central Library. A must visit for any urban nerds out there.

English

@LudoCReid I remember this in Tokyo. They had to convert nearby parks into impromptu bike parking. Then had trucks driving around towing bikes that were parked illegally. It was lucky they had such wide footpaths as otherwise people wouldn't be able to walk past.
English

@SianSimpson Little far from K road tho... The Art Gallery had a lovely space if you were a member but not sure if that's still happening

@LudoCReid Where is this? I've been waiting for the answer. I also tried Google lens and thought it was Bangkok. I thought Chicago but had no basis.
