Nigeria is for global peace and stability and for its friends and partners anywhere. I am particularly concerned by the attacks on UAE's civilian and economic infrastructure. I reaffirm my support and solidarity to the President of UAE and the measures he took to safeguard civilian populations and critical infrastructure.

He was standing at his post, doing his job, and he never came home. On 18th April 2026, Inspector Habila Mangai was carrying out a lawful stop-and-search along the Owerri-Okigwe Road in Imo State. He was right where he was meant to be, doing the job he promised to do. A Mack truck hit him. He was taken quickly to the Federal Medical Centre in Owerri, but he did not survive. Inspector Habila Mangai was part of the Isiala Mbano Division. He was on duty at Amaraku Junction, a place where his community knew and respected him, and where they will now mourn his loss. The driver and vehicle are now in custody. The State Motor Traffic Department has started a full investigation. Justice will be served fully and according to the law. IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, offers his deepest condolences to Inspector Habila's family, colleagues, and everyone in the Imo State Police Command. His sacrifice will not be in vain. To all motorists in Nigeria: Officers at checkpoints and duty posts are humans too. They are sons, fathers, husbands, and colleagues. Please slow down, follow traffic rules, and respect their lives. Inspector Habila Mangai, your community showed us your true character. They mourned you even before we could speak. Rest in honor, gallant officer.

Dear, The Headquarters, Nigerian Army @HQNigerianArmy, The Honorable Minister of Defence @DHQNigeria and The National Security Adviser (NSA) @NuhuRibadu I am writing to formally draw your attention to the highly unprofessional and divisive conduct of Lt. E.S. Bot, who is currently serving as a Chaplain with the 35 Artillery Brigade in Maiduguri. Our attention had been drawn that Lt. E.S. Bot has crossed the line and breached the standards of professional military conduct by engaging in actions that reflect religious bigotry and insensitivity. Such behavior not only violates military discipline but also poses a direct threat to the unity and cohesion of the armed forces. The Nigerian Army stands as a symbol of national unity. Allowing individuals who promote religious intolerance to remain within its ranks, especially in influential positions such as the Chaplaincy, risks tarnishing the institution’s image and fostering division among personnel. A professional military must remain strictly neutral and uphold fairness in order to maintain the trust of a diverse population. We therefore call on the military high command, as a matter of urgency, to: 1.Investigate the alleged statements and conduct of Lt. E.S. Bot. 2.Hold him accountable for any actions found to be in violation of the Armed Forces Act. 3.Reinforce the standards of neutrality and professionalism expected of all officers to prevent future occurrences. Failure to address this matter promptly could undermine the morale and unity of our troops. As the saying goes, a stitch in time saves nine.
