Why do you believe we are seeing such a steep decline in girls high school basketball participation? Non-refutable data from the NFHS says that participation has dropped 21% over the last 25 years.
But why? What is your take on the why when the highest levels of the sport have never been more popular.

@JoshuaMorgret I was the PA guy for a MI school that won an 11-man state title in the 2000s but pivoted to 8-player to keep football going a few years ago. It has been great for the school. And they haven’t even sniffed a state title in 8-player because the competition is so good in Michigan.

@JoshuaMorgret One of the most interesting parts in observing the Michigan and Ohio landscapes is Michigan’s embracing of 8-player vs. Ohio’s shrugging it off. I have no idea why some schools would rather have their teeth kicked in each week vs. being competitive.

It's going to be ____ when SMCC and Danbury - separated by 25 minutes - have to drive 2+ hours to the Pennsylvania border on a Saturday night for the 8-man state championship game. I guess we were spoiled by the game being in Fremont last year, haha.

Indulge me. 25 years ago today, I anchored sports at WBKB in Alpena, Michigan for the first time. There have been other stations, other titles, other responsibilities but for a quarter century now I have been a local TV Sports anchor. Who knows how much longer this will last.

BOYS BBALL: Thom Loomis tells me he is stepping down as head coach of Fostoria. He was 79-84 in seven seasons at the helm of the Redmen. Fostoria was 18-5 this past season. Loomis will stay on as athletic director at Fostoria High School. @speerjt
