Ah, yes, the famous Indian salary debate, where headlines get exaggerated, but the context stays quiet. 😌
“₹6,000 crore salary bill!”
“Chief engineers ₹7 lakh!”
“Sweepers ₹2 lakh!”
Cue dramatic music.
First, ₹7 lakh for chief engineers in power utilities? That’s senior technical leadership managing grid infrastructure worth thousands of crores. But sure, let’s act surprised they’re not paid in coupons.
And ₹2 lakh per month for senior Class 4 employees? yearly? gross? With arrears? With DA revisions? The headline conveniently omits the boring details that would temper the outrage.
A salary bill increasing fourfold over ten years also often results from:
• New recruitments
• Pay commission revisions
• DA rises
• Pension accumulations
But yes, let’s pretend broomsticks are now a form of venture capital. 🧹💰
Public finance is complex.
Twitter headlines are not.
