@BackersGamesF Epic is in contact with the family and will solve the insurance for them. There is high confidentiality around medical information and it was not a factor in this layoff decision. Sorry to everyone for not recognizing this terribly painful situation and handling it in advance.

Fortnite thrived in spite of Sweeney, not because of him.
Rezztro@Rezztro

Because of Tim Sweeney: - The Fortnite Metaverse was rushed and resources were stripped from the storyline & events - Donald Mustard retired from Epic Games - 1,000+ Epic Employees were laid off in September 2023 - Fortnite's story suffered greatly from the lack of resources - Billions of dollars were spent fighting Apple & Google and Tim joked about it causing financial problems in the future - UEFN creators were, for no good reason, paid almost $800 million dollars in the past year - On March 19th, V-Bucks prices were increased and the amount we received was reduced - 1,000+ more Epic Employees were just laid off today Every time we even reach a potential high for this game & things look good for everyone, Tim Sweeney manages to bring it all down. He is the ROOT of all the problems with Fortnite & Epic Games in recent years. ALL OF THIS happened because he thought Fortnite can be just like Roblox and it took him FOUR YEARS to realize that it can't be. And only after he had done SO MUCH damage to both this game & the company. I genuinely cannot believe how someone can be so stupid. Again, I am so heartbroken for all the employees who were laid off today. Not a single one of them deserved this. They put so much love & care into this game only to then be laid off. I truly wish them the best moving forward. Try and support them as much as possible, along with the employees who weren't laid off either. It's taking a toll on all of them.

@TimSweeneyEpic No accountability? No remorse? You are a terrible person. A real leader would’ve taken a pay cut but all you care about is money.

In the coming days, employers will see a stream of resumes of once-in-a-lifetime quality folks. An important thing to understand is that Epic never lowered our hiring standards as we grew, and the layoff wasn't a performance-based "rightsizing" as companies call it nowadays. It's a sound bet that anyone with Epic Games on their resume is in the top few percent of their discipline.

Sad news for Epic Games. Hope the efforts to turn things around can work. gamesbeat.com/epic-games-lay…

@trygraptor I liked it a lot, even though it was clearly not a Dennis Villenueve project. I do think the Dune universe is large enough for different kinds of productions.

We have a lot of convos around the game going right now, but one thing we've aligned on and will be doing for the next Cryo window is making Subroutines a 100% drop from each vault. Thanks for the feedback we'll keep hammering on more updates.

I like politics, so part one is perfect for me because we get to learn about how the Imperium functions, who the power players are, and how these plots and plans are coming together. My only complaint is not seeing more of the Guild or learning about CHOAM, but I understand why they were cut.

We would like to address questions regarding the use of AI in Crimson Desert. During development, some 2D visual props were created as part of early-stage iteration using experimental AI generative tools. These assets helped us rapidly explore tone and atmosphere in the earlier phases of production. However, our intention has always been for any such assets to be replaced, following final work and review by our art and development teams, with work that aligned with our quality standards and creative direction. Following reports from our community, we have identified that some of these assets were unintentionally included in the final release. This is not in line with our internal standards, and we take full responsibility for it. We also acknowledge that we should have clearly disclosed our use of AI. While these tools were primarily used during early production, with the expectation that these assets would be replaced prior to release, we recognize that this does not excuse the lack of transparency. We sincerely apologize for these oversights. We are currently conducting a comprehensive audit of all in-game assets and are taking steps to replace any affected content. Updated assets will be rolled out in upcoming patches. In parallel, we are reviewing and strengthening our internal processes to ensure greater transparency and consistency in how we communicate with players moving forward.

@xonebros Just say you don’t want artists to be paid for their work. The devs wanted to save money and they cut corners and they got caught. Own it.

Caring about AI being used to create assets in Crimson Desert is like refusing to eat at a restaurant because you found out they used a food processor instead of hand chopping the onions. Only the anti-AI social media bros care. Nobody else does. It's a great game. AI is a tool. Every studio will use it, and they should.

I have 60 hours in Marathon, I’m lvl 46, I’ve played Cryo around 10+ times, and out of all those playthroughs I’ve only extracted around 3-4 times. I’m obviously not the greatest player, but I’d say I’m decent, and yet I don’t blame the game for losing because it’s a ME problem

Man, fuck your 9-5 grandma. Not every piece of content, especially endgame content, can or should be accessible to everyone. The whole point of Cryo Archive is that it tests the skills you’ve developed throughout playing the game, and if you fail, well that’s on you not the game
Jake Lucky@JakeSucky

"It's the most elaborate extraction shooter map I've ever seen in a game... the problem is... is your 9-5 grandma and grandpa gunna be able to do it" Shroud says Cryo Archive in Marathon is incredible, but is it too difficult for casual players

@CrimsonDesert_ Why apologize? AI, in one form or another, will be in every single video game. I don't get why devs feel the need to bend over for the few folks who can't accept the reality that AI will be in every single thing - from video games to your fridge (it already is). Man up.
