They can only do it twice a year, and they need the UFC to put on a weak card that day or no card at all? Seems successfully timed.

@thejivy @stammerov91 @arielhelwani their end goal isn’t really building a full roster. it’s one off spectacle fights 2-3 times a year kinda like boxing has done. as a ufc fan it’s great because it pushes ufc to make bigger cards.

I’m not 💩ing on Netflix. They lined up a card full of “names”. Got eyes on it. Production looked and sounded good. My point was, the fights were NOT high level matchups. So sure. Get a bunch of names people recognize from past UFC generations and fill a card and it’ll pull. But to truly compete with UFC, they have to get a roster of legit fighters to put on 42 events a year like the UFC does. Can they get a card with that many names 42 times a year? Nope. So what’s the staying power?

@themessengermma @thejivy @arielhelwani there was nothing competing against this event saturday. even though I didn’t like it, it was successful. old legacy names still pull numbers. it’s good for the ufc too, pushes them to do bigger events. mvp can only do this twice a yr.

The question is where else are they going to keep drawing name value from to keep putting on these events? More appeal built and discarded from UFC? That’s the business model?

Has Ariel been honest about the fight card yet? He tries to 💩 on UFC cards. The “known fighters” 1. Dos Santos - hasn’t fought in UFC in 6 years and is way over the hill. 2. Nganu - only one on this card they could still fight in UFC, but he was fed a 205er. 3. Perry - fun fighter with a bad UFC record 4. Diaz - WTF? One of my favs dating back to TUF days… but he’s washed. 6. Carano - I mean…. Let’s be real. Happy for her pay day… but… yeah 7. Rousey - fed a 40 something actor/striker who hasn’t fought in 17 years. As BAD as this card was in reality, to be truely competitive, they gotta do 41 more of these a year.

@arielhelwani there’s no need to hate these were pretty good numbers. now the problem they’ll have is what’s next. i think ufc surpasses that with white house and mcgregor card.
