@DanCevette As a sophomore in relief winning by one the senior shortstop made an error allowing the other team to tie the game forcing extras. The senior was visibly upset as they came off the phone field he went over to him and gave him a huge hug and said we got you, we are going to be ok.

@BaseballDudes48 Yes, 1000 times yes. My son just finished his hs career and I asked about pitches being called that he didn't want to throw. He said when it happened he would intentionally throw the pitch for a ball. Crazy! Still with that only gave up 5 BB in 60 innings with a 1.12 era. Crazy

“Coach” says: “If you shake off my call again, you’re benched!” Been around this game a long time. Have pitched and been a pitching coach for nearly 40 years. Pitching is about feel, confidence, strategy and throwing whatever pitch you throw with 💯 conviction. Being forced to throw something your mind and heart aren’t fully committed to often won’t end well. Anyone who has played this game, pitched, long term understands this. Coaches, if you think and say things like this, I’ll be frank here, you don’t understand the position the way you think you do. For the success, production and development of your pitchers, it may be time to learn more about the position, especially the mental side of it, and change your approach.

@GowagsKyle @GoWagsBret @RandySullivanPT I feel like this is also driving the Tommy John epidemic. Kids want to get seen so they do everything they can to reach for velocities that their arms aren't ready for and pop UCL done. Pitchers should be given credit for being able to pitch not just a number on a gun.

@GowagsKyle I think people confuse noise for energy. Just because you're loud and chattering doesn't mean you have energy or that you are engaged. I hear you on this one.

I struggle with dugout “chatter.” In fact, I’ve always struggled with it. I don’t think helps in any way. I’d rather you sit there and observe instead of open your mouth and say something completely random. Goofy and I don’t mix during competition!

@chrismassella @BaseballDudes48 Never! Philosophy for base stealing if you see something act, if I give you the sign and you don't like your jump break it down. Hitters hit don't worry about the base runner, even if you see the steel sign don't let a cookie go bye take your A hack.

@BaseballDudes48 Many coaches teach w/less than 2 strikes, take the pitch (even if a strike) when runner is stealing. If the batter swings, he’s now selfish. Agree?

Youth coaches, please calm down with all the stealing!! One of the biggest complaints we hear from High School coaches about their incoming freshman is their lack of base running skills. They struggle with the concept of going 1st to 3rd and scoring from 2nd on a ground ball in the hole. They are weak with their primary and secondary leads and few even know what a “dirt ball read” is. They don’t know when to “peak” and when to keep their head down when stealing and they don’t know the difference between a “less than two out lead” when on second base versus a “two out lead.” Teaching them aggressiveness and confidence with stealing bases is one thing (absolutely teach them how to steal) but having them steal to get to third base within the first two pitches when they are on base is taking away a ton of opportunities for them to get better at the things listed above. Also, having your batter take the first pitch every time just so they can steal can be hindering your hitter too. That 0-0 pitch is the highest batting average pitch. How about putting on a “hit and run!”

@BaseballDudes48 I love the 21 game. I am stealing that one. Another coach posted about a knock out tournament at the end of catch where you and your partner compete quickest to 5 center of mass and winners move on till the last man is standing.

My youth: My father and I would always play “21” (a control game, head = 5 points, torso = 3 point and lower body = 1 point, had to get exactly 21 to win) and he built a strike zone out of a piece of plywood by cutting out a rectangle for the zone and hung a piece of carpet behind to stop the strikes. He would keep track of total pitches and strikes and give me a percentage after each practice session. I strongly believe this to be a reason I was able to command the ball so well growing up on into my career.

Coaches in the northeast: How do you simulate fly ball drills for OF? How can you make them more game speed than just throwing over the shoulders? How can you make your OF ready and prepared without going outside routinely until your south trip for game 1? Here are my ideas⬇️

@CoachMarcusHill This weekend a coach came to the plate meeting for the ship and said I have one pitcher left. He is going to throw 65 pitches and after that we will concede. At 65 he came out and told his boys to line up. He is a hero in my book.

Good morning coaches, here’s your reminder to not throw that kid 100 pitches to try to win a fall baseball game this weekend.
