Tennessee’s lawmakers passed maps to redraw the state’s only majority-Black district. This move divides the Black vote and minimizes its influence. Today, the NAACP Tennessee State Conference filed a lawsuit to block the State’s plan to silence Black representation. This fight is about protecting our voting rights, our voices, and our democracy. “A democracy without Black representation is not a democracy. In a democracy, the voters decide. Today, the Virginia Supreme Court chose to silence them. Just weeks ago, Virginians approved a temporary redistricting referendum to keep extremist lawmakers accountable. The NAACP proudly mobilized across the Commonwealth, contacting over 150,000 Black voters to help secure this victory. By overturning this measure, the Court has rejected the clear will of the people.
