I was also laid off from @washingtonpost in today's cuts. I am incredibly proud of the work my colleagues and I did, including our unflinching coverage of the Gaza war -- which still hasn't ended for Palestinians there. Please, readers, support the journalism this world needs.

I was laid off today by The Washington Post. I’m proud of the work I have done at this place — not just the award-winning work, but the stories that spurred change, that were steeped in this beautiful local community. Job tips welcome. DMs open. Or: marissalang(@)gmail(dot)com

I’m stunned and heartbroken. I’ve been laid off, along with so many dear colleagues. Making my way to The Post nine years ago felt like a dream come true.

I was so lucky to work at the @washingtonpost for more than a decade, alongside tenacious, world-class journalists. I know how deeply committed the staff is to the mission of holding power to account, and how much grit and bravery they bring to unearthing stories that would otherwise go untold. The loss of so many journalists is gutting for all of us who care about The Post and its long history of independent, rigorous reporting.

After 16 years with the National Catholic Reporter (as a columnist, correspondent and executive editor/VP), I have been laid off for financial reasons. I’m proud of the work I did and will be taking some time before deciding what’s next. My new contact information is in my bio.

New from me, on the death of a Southern Baptist whistleblower as the annual convention opens in Dallas, "an annual meeting where abuse reform is dead in the water." With remembrances from @BethMooreLPM, @KSPrior and others: nytimes.com/2025/06/09/us/…

The reporting of abuse at Christian mega-camp Kanakuk has been shocking, but today @NancyAFrench reported that there has been no disciplinary action against any supervisors of a former camp director who prosecutors say may have abused 100s of children.
Nancy French@NancyAFrench

A Louisiana @kanakuk victim came forward today - after 20 years of believing he was the only victim of super predator Pete Newman. Newman's now in prison for the rest of his life for child abuse with an estimated 'hundreds' of victims. How did this happen? A thread. /1

When institutions lie about abuse and try to keep it quiet, the problem doesn't magically go away. Instead the cover-up further isolates and endangers lives. Institutions have to be honest, so victims can get help, and - finally, like Mike -- tell their stories. /22
