@chico_ray Socialism is one of several widespread doctrines advocating the violent redress of imaginary grievances.

@arjunkhemani @JMilei But why the convergence on bad and immoral ideas when there are infinitely more of them to choose from? @DavidDeutschOxf

@DavidDeutschOxf @webdevMason Indeed. And the squeaks and giggles from the headphone wearer is a delight to hear!

I thought David Deutsch was the first to claim that knowledge is a cosmic force, one that’s possibly the most powerful in the universe (although not yet).
But in the 1940’s, Ludwig Von Mises wrote this in Human Action:
“Human action is one of the agencies bringing about change. It is an element of cosmic activity and becoming. Therefore it is a legitimate object of scientific investigation. As—at least under present conditions—it cannot be traced back to its causes, it must be considered as an ultimate given and must be studied as such.”
But Mises goes on to make the same mistake as Stephen Hawking’s ‘chemical scum’ argument which Deutsch refutes:
“It is true that the changes brought about by human action are but trifling when compared with the effects of the operation of the great cosmic forces. From the point of view of eternity and the infinite universe man is an infinitesimal speck. But for man human action and its vicissitudes are the real thing. Action is the essence of his nature and existence, his means of preserving his life and raising himself above the level of animals and plants. However perishable and evanescent all human efforts may be, for man and for human science they are of primary importance.”
But I don’t blame him for viewing our impact on the universe that way considering he wrote this long before we had a plan to put people on the Moon.

Do Austrians consider the action axiom as applying both to a creative producer (imagining and building a new product) and a creative consumer (searching the market for a new widget to satisfy their goal)? @PerBylund @ChipkinLogan @BobMurphyEcon
English

Austrian econ rightly claims production precedes consumption. What do the Austrians say about creativity. Do they agree it proceeds production?
Brett Hall@ToKTeacher
Innovation (creativity which generates new widgets) grows the economy. Production comes next. The more *production* the larger the economy. Consumption is just the final step. It is the creator of new goods and services who is the hero and their initial wealth is irrelevant.

@DavidDeutschOxf @MwangiMuse Also induction on the part of the misinformed.
English

@DavidDeutschOxf @MwangiMuse It gets me thinking that ‘Misinformation’ is such an irksome concept because it contains both Empiricism and appeal to authority. What’s your data? Where are you getting it from?

@thomaschattwill This book explains why. And now I think of it, it’s a good remedy for cynicism as well.

@m3rike several clinicians i have spoke with say it’s probably more common than is reported, but many cases get stuck in repeated A&E visits or with GPs, so they don’t reach the neurologists.

It's easy to claim #spinalCSFleak is rare. But punctures from the smallest spinal needles are typically MRI negative, so are many other leaks. Probable #SIH patient registry doesn't exist. The problem for medicine is that the internet enables many patients to find each other.
