@SwagnShades On one hand I see Coaches complaining about parent’s involvement however this post purely speaks to parents speaking up to prevent injuries. Few young athletes know their bodies well enough to know/prevent injury, so this is asking for parent involvement. Am I missing something?

Ohtani’s Injury has us talking injury causes, which is good. Adults, Listen Up: 1. Pitch counts need to be controlled. When you send a kid to SS after throwing 90 pitches, you’re part of the problem. 2. When you have a RADAR GUN up all the time, you’re a part of the problem.

Coach thanks for the share. I read that situation a little different. I see a Trust & Team issue in the story. As a Coach if players don’t Trust enough to share what is affecting them & the athlete not Caring about poor performance effecting the Team. We all have issues/problems off the field/court but to play at the next level mentally we have to be tougher than that. Off the field/court we can demonstrate our leadership and compassion by assisting in this athletes struggle where we can and what is appropriate. Athletic Governing Bodies has certain rules regarding assistance

My biggest mistake in coaching came very early on when I didn’t take the time to get to know a player before pushing him and testing his limits. A young man who was very capable wasn’t going hard in practice & I called him out big time, in front of everyone. He responded that he only had popcorn to eat once in the last two days and was worried about how his little sister would get dinner. How could this player give his all? You MUST get to know them as people before players!!! It’s our JOB to care!!!

@clongbaseball I have passed on recruits I wanted based on Grades! Grades to me show how the athlete will respond to Offense/Defense/Skill concepts, I am trying to implement. If you are not taking school work serious the College route might not be for you!

Never passed on a recruit I wanted because of parents. I’ve passed on recruits on the bubble if there was to much baggage. If you’ve been told you were not selected due to other reasons but your tools. It is your toolset that isn’t making the cut. There is something that needs work.

A better WIN/WIN solution is have the player let their travel baseball/softball coach know about the camp and have the travel coach reach out to the camp coach & inquire if they are actually looking for that skill position. Saves $ for athlete & seriousness of the coach/school To many great athletes are taken advantage by unscrupulous camps/coaches for pure $ grab. Trust me when I say players remember that about those camps/coaches because I’ve witnessed players kick it up a gear when they compete against them in college! This happens in life & business too! Keep Grinding!

“Coach I would love to come to your camp but we have a tournament that weekend” Can we please normalize missing a day of tournaments to attend a camp at a school you’re interested in? OR Reply “thanks for the invite but I’m not interested in your school” #justmythoughts 🫠

@Harry_Darling @nextlevelbb Interesting, I’ve had players that had fans/agents/parents show to every workout. No issues if it is open to the public. Advice? I typically learn from those I disagree with. If I am trying to get the juice from the squeeze, advice is helpful! Interesting comment to say the least

Here’s another good one. If you no call no show an entire tournament on your teammates and then I text your dad on Monday asking what happened and your dad makes up some bullshit excuse about you being away for two weeks and “I should’ve texted you life has been crazy” just know that we live in a small area so I’m gonna find out that you were in another state playing for another team. We wonder where all this audacity and entitlement comes from. Now they can deal with it.

@CoachMarcusHill I get the hard line approach, in my years of coaching, I have found where the player can’t drive yet I have to remember there is a parent behind many of the actions & words spoken by a young athlete. A few questions before an action / decision like that makes a difference.

Travel Baseball Problems Episode 9384768582: kid registered for our tryouts. Skips. I say 🤷🏻‍♂️you missed tryouts. Kid says oh I decided to stay with current team. I say cool. Kid dm last night hey can I still tryout? I go what happened to staying with current team. Oh I got cut. Can I still tryout? Nah. We’ve gotta do a better job teaching these kids about the real fucking world man. This shit exists because some of you out there are like oh yeah sure we’ll take you come on down. That’s how we got here in the first place.

@CoachJeffLeach Maybe the issue isn’t the kids or Dads, maybe it’s the Media, Schools & NPC’s that caused the kids to answer that way because those are safe players (deemed currently) when playing baseball in “Cancel Culture”

When they’re lauding these LLWS kids for saying they’re favorite player is Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Bonds, Maddux etc my interpretation is that these kids don’t watch baseball. They just listen to their Dad talk about old players.

Took 45 years to get to this point. Worked in, rented from, partly owned, 💯 owned, cleaned and learned what goes into running a facility. Anyone who’s done it understands how hard it actually is. The hustle and bustle of a full facility can be exciting but I’m at a point where I’ll take quiet and private. If your goal is to have your own private space someday, keep that dream alive. It won’t be easy but it will be worth it.

@UOrangemen 1. Ask for film 2. Analyze as a Coach/Friend 3. Put my own plan together as if this was my team (Ask Coach do the same) 4. Compare plans and see if things differ Without a plan your work, work your plan attitude on the field/court/classroom repeatable successes are difficult

@UOrangemen If a college player, I carve $ for him… If a HS player I pick up the phone and call colleges on his behalf because that type of player can bring championships to a program!

@UOrangemen It’s an interesting scenario, I would ask myself as the Coach as how did practice get that out of control where benching players is the result. If necessary you bench for the greater good of the team because a college coach would do the same.

@CoachKurtHines I’ve never heard one guy in the clubhouse complain about his time in the minors! All have taken that opportunity to improve and work on their craft. Any thoughts of less than is a mental block that needs to be conquered before making it to the next level.

Playing JV football is NOT a “demotion”, or “beneath” anyone. JV football is STILL football, and is a tremendous opportunity to play a sport you love, and to get 1% better every day! Those who OWN THEIR ROLE, will often find themselves playing up, sooner than they may realize!

@tromblybaseball Must be a disconnect somewhere in the process… Too many organizations lose players due to poor communications. Hopefully you were provided feedback for their decision. If not maybe there is an approachability problem with the parents, clearly that’s not the case with the player.

This is sad. A parent notified me that their son was leaving our program. I messaged the player and thanked him for playing for us and wished him the best. He told me that his parent did that without asking him and he wants to play for us. This is sad for so many reasons.
