Family Seeks Justice After Twin Dies in NICU; Says Funeral Home Reported Baby Arrived Without Organs!
A Fort Worth family is demanding answers following the death of a premature newborn after weeks in the NICU at Texas Health Harris Methodist Downtown Fort Worth, according to multiple statements shared publicly by family members.
Samaria Bates and her fiancé, Kenneth Sauls, were expecting twin girls and welcomed them prematurely on October 23, 2025. Family members say that aside from being born early, the twins had no major health complications and were admitted to the hospital’s NICU to grow stronger, focus on feeding, and gain weight before eventually coming home.
For six weeks, the family says the twins remained in the NICU and were making progress.
On Friday, December 5, 2025, one of the twins, baby Samaria, passed away. According to the family, events surrounding that day raised immediate concerns.
Family members say Samaria’s father arrived at the NICU around midday for a routine visit but was denied access and told a “sterile procedure” was taking place. A NICU nurse later acknowledged noticing that the baby appeared pale as early as 8:00 a.m., but the concern was reportedly not escalated until approximately 11:30 a.m., according to the family.
The family states that during this medical emergency, Samaria Bates and Kenneth Sauls were not notified by hospital staff and were only able to learn information by being physically present and asking urgent questions. Despite those efforts, their daughter did not survive.
Family members say they have not received a clear explanation of what occurred leading up to the baby’s death and claim there are discrepancies between what they were told verbally, what is documented, and what they believe took place.
Since the death, the family says repeated attempts to meet peacefully with NICU staff, nurse management, medical professionals, and hospital leadership have gone unanswered.
In a recent update, the family shared new and alarming information. According to a statement posted by a family member, Samaria Bates did not sign any consent forms authorizing organ removal. The family says they were notified by the funeral home that baby Samaria arrived without her organs. They state they learned this information after her passing and are now seeking urgent clarification regarding how this occurred.
The family has emphasized that they are not only seeking justice for their own child, but also calling attention to what they describe as an ongoing issue within the Black community, where families say they are often left without answers following medical tragedies.
A public protest has been announced for Friday, December 12, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., as the family calls for transparency, accountability, and awareness. They are encouraging supporters to attend in person if possible or to share the story online to help bring national attention to the case.
