Because everything people object to on a farm grows straight out of it. The field pushed to the very edge. The hedge that came out because the government paid to have it removed. The shed instead of the yard. The supermarket contract signed below cost because the alternative was no contract. Nobody intensified out of malice. They were priced into it over sixty years by a policy that decided cheap groceries mattered more than a countryside, and by a retail sector that kept the difference. Britain now grows around sixty per cent of its own food. More than a third of British farmers are past sixty-five. The man with the Amazon cheque cannot make a thousand acres pay. The seventy-year-old with three hundred and no film crew is doing it anyway, and being told by people who have never sold a tonne of anything that he is the problem.

Someone explain this to me slowly, because I'm clearly the idiot here. We plant a Mediterranean nut in a Californian desert. It doesn't rain there, so we drain a ten-thousand-year-old aquifer until the ground itself sinks a foot a year and whole towns get shorter. The trees can't fight off fungus, so we spray the lot. They can't pollinate themselves, so every February we truck thirty billion bees across a continent and let a fair share of them die in the crush. Then we chill the harvest and sail it six thousand miles to Britain, where it rains constantly and always has, to be blitzed with water and gums and sold to you at £2.40 a carton with a green leaf on the side. That is the environmentally friendly option. Twelve miles down the road there's a bloke with cattle in a field. Rain falls on the hill. Grass drinks it. Cow eats grass. Nothing pumped, sprayed, chilled or shipped. No bees died. Her entire supply chain is weather. That is the planetary emergency. And it'll be explained to you by someone holding a carton of desert water, wearing a fleece made of crude oil. Asking for the cow. She's been very patient about it.

Specialists believe one of the names for this particular refusal is Broken Heart Syndrome...Takotsubo cardiomyopathy...the left ventricle ballooning into the shape of a Japanese octopus trap while the coronary arteries remain clean. It presents as a heart attack. It can kill like one. And the only reason a medical professional I trust has never seen anyone survive it is because the demographic it usually claims is older, softer, less forged. I am not that demographic. I am the residual architecture of every impact that was never allowed to finish me: the childhood rape, the narcissistic mother who never stopped the siege, the lover who bled out in my arms, the years spent inside forensic psychology watching the human animal at its most predatory, the private, unrecorded moments when the body still smells iron in the rain. That ledger does not produce a single, cinematic heartbreak. It produces a catecholamine climate the myocardium has been forced to weather for decades. The acute event is only the final over-pressure. The real pathology is the long, high-voltage history the textbooks still prefer to romanticize away. Tomorrow they will map the valves, the arteries, the tear itself. They will decide whether this is pure stunning or something that has already begun to structurally fail. Until the images return, the only honest statement is this: the heart that has spent a lifetime absorbing impact does not break the way the literature expects. It changes shape. I just had the craziest customer service experience at the airport Last night we stayed at the Four Points hotel in Salt Lake City. We had an early morning flight and the hotel offers a free shuttle to the airport. Traveling with 3 kids means your mind is scattered in a million pieces. So when the shuttle dropped us off at the airport at 4:15am, I realized I forgot my glasses I’ve had glasses since 5th grade and I’m pretty much dependent on them for everything (driving, working, etc.). This is also my only pair because apparently I haven’t learned my lesson enough times When I realized I forgot them, I immediately called the hotel and explained what happened. The front desk attendant asked for my room number and if I was still at the airport. “No problem. I’ll find them and have the shuttle driver bring them over.” Instant relief 15 minutes later I get a call saying the driver was on his way with my glasses and I should meet him outside Sure enough, Allen, the shuttle driver for the Four Points by Sheraton was there with my glasses. One of the best customer service experiences I’ve ever had. The hotel front desk attendant could have offered to ship them or even tell me I was out of luck. But instead she went to my room, found my glasses, and sent the driver to find me at the airport. @sheratonhotels you’ve got a good crew working for you at the Four Points in SLC. Thank you!

I love Texas Roadhouse & particularly their yeast rolls. I been saying for years I hate when they aren't fluffy & look like little rocks. I just had a call there & went in & they had all the rolls out to rise & it smelled sooo good. I told a dude standing near a tray of uncooked rolls he must have had the water too hot or something cuz the yeast ain't making the rolls rise enough and he gave me a look that told me if he could have thought of a way to dispose of my body I'd be a goner 😂👮‍♂️
