All Armed Forces personnel are considered to be "On Duty" 24x7 ( a fact duly ratified by the Hon'ble Supreme Court in so many judgements) and hence, for Regular Armed Forces personnel, there is no concept of "On Duty" or "Off Duty" and hence there is no requirement of "On Duty Passes". Such passes are required for the Irregular Armed Forces personnel only like Territorial Army personnel etc. The Indian Tolls Act, 1901 is absolutely clear about this. Credit where credit is due. From a military PoV, Sheesh what an op. 1. Imagine a pilot staying alive for nearly 2 days in hostile territory without being captured. 2. Imagine the CO and top brass continuing search and rescue while putting everyone in danger to get their guy back that they believed will not die. 3. Imagine a ground SAR force holding ground for hours in hot zone for a c130 to land, get struck, get destroyed and then still able to get back their guy and extract out of the hot zone. Gotta give it to them. Sure, some things may be exaggerated but they still pulled something amazing off here.
