Yeah underlying this escape from the present (future or past) is always neurosis / insecurity / desire / pain. If you can't sit on a beach and watch the waves, you're going to be highly successful. But not happy. The protection from acknowledging this lack is that happiness can't be quantified. There's no bank account, nothing to quantify the emotional poverty some live in.

Outliers with higher levels of consciousness will often say they struggle to "live in the present", and most will assume they mean that their minds are meandering into the past or extrapolating into possible futures, which can be partially true, however, what these outliers often are conveying is that they experience multiple layers of the present simultaneously, and depending on their cognitive bandwidth, their attention is distributed across these layers, they are not operating within a single-layer presence - thus, what they are describing carries nuance, they are not confined to the physical layer of the present, yet are not entirely absent from it either, as if they are partially observing and filtering stimulus from the embodied present like a live immersive film.

i hate to say it but a 1% tax on property over $5m you don’t live in is hard to argue against for the average voter like, the solution is simply “actually live in NYC”, “what are you so broke you can’t afford 1%?”, and “well you could just leave NYC” all are ego hits none of these property owners don’t wanna take and have a hard time refuting love or hate him, he’s actually doing something vs most mayors and tells you in the slickest way possible
