He was Born April 22, 1936 in Delight, Arkansas, one of 12 children in a sharecropping family. He got his first guitar at age four and was playing in local bars by his mid-teens, showing early signs of the prodigy he would become.
Before his solo fame, he became a top session guitarist with the legendary "Wrecking Crew," playing on hits by Frank Sinatra, Merle Haggard, and The Beach Boys. He toured with The Beach Boys in 1964–65, filling in for an ailing Brian Wilson.
He went on to massive success with hits like "Wichita Lineman," "Rhinestone Cowboy," and "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," winning six Grammys and a Country Music Hall of Fame induction. He had eight children and left a lasting legacy of music that still resonates today.
