Letting people come back into our lives without taking accountability for the pain they've caused keeps us in a loop of not being able to heal. Like when you keep picking a scab. The wound gets worse and never fully heals. Re-injury. When there's no true apology and changed behavior on their side we can't allow them to keep coming back into our lives. If we truly want healing we have to forgive them, forgive ourselves for allowing it, and love them from a distance so that we can focus on healing and transformation.
