Today I mourn the passing of a friend & mentor, John F. Schuessler (1940–2026), co-founder of MUFON & a true pioneer who brought scientific rigor to UFO research. A highly accomplished aerospace engineer with over 36 years at McDonnell Douglas & Boeing, John approached the phenomenon with technical precision, integrity & genuine compassion for witnesses -most notably in his exhaustive work on the Cash-Landrum case. Exactly 10 years ago, I had the privilege of hosting John & fellow science advisors for a private meeting regarding Skinwalker Ranch. That gathering sparked a warm friendship & ongoing association. For years afterward, he generously shared his research, insights & decades of hard-won experience as I quietly pursued my own private investigation. His guidance was invaluable…always grounded, always encouraging & never seeking the spotlight. In a field often marked by noise, John stood for evidence, discipline & quiet dedication. The UFO/UAP community owes him an enormous debt & I will always be grateful for his kindness & wisdom. Rest in peace, John. Your legacy endures in every serious inquiry that follows. @mufon

Q: Are there similarities between your Matt Drake series and the Mitch Rapp series? if so, did you use inspiration from the Drake series for the Rapp series? A: I think all of us who started writing in the espionage/military thriller genre post Mitch Rapp owe something to Vince Flynn. Vince was one of the first authors to give voice to what the American public felt after 9/11. Mitch Rapp did what we all wished we could do—visit rough justice on the Islamic terrorists and their enablers who planned and executed the worst terrorist attack on American soil in our nation’s history. While my Matt Drake books are very different from Vince’s stories, I believe that Mitch Rapp will always be the protagonist readers measure our characters against. Vince didn’t create the genre, but he sure did expand its readership. His amazing storytelling provided the opportunity for writers like me to follow in his footsteps.
