Q: Are there similarities between your Matt Drake series and the Mitch Rapp series? if so, did you use inspiration from the Drake series for the Rapp series? A: I think all of us who started writing in the espionage/military thriller genre post Mitch Rapp owe something to Vince Flynn. Vince was one of the first authors to give voice to what the American public felt after 9/11. Mitch Rapp did what we all wished we could do—visit rough justice on the Islamic terrorists and their enablers who planned and executed the worst terrorist attack on American soil in our nation’s history. While my Matt Drake books are very different from Vince’s stories, I believe that Mitch Rapp will always be the protagonist readers measure our characters against. Vince didn’t create the genre, but he sure did expand its readership. His amazing storytelling provided the opportunity for writers like me to follow in his footsteps. What Authors Did You Read Growing Up? "I grew up in the golden age of military thrillers. Lots of folks know about Tom Clancy, but he was only one of the authors I devoured. Some of my favorites included FIREFOX by Craig Thomas, TEAM YANKEE by Harold Coyle, RED PHOENIX by Larry Bond, FLIGHT OF THE OLD DOG by Dale Brown, and CHARLIE MIKE by Leonard Scott. Most of these authors had multiple book series, and I plowed through them as a teenager and young adult. Their excellent storytelling heavily influenced my own writing."
