off the top of my head: - bad responses to security issues - took VC money - overly aggressive on banning cheats, even things like basic features of the freecam mod (reasonable rule but cheats are the most likely to get malware spread with fake copies, and trusted mod downloading sites not allowing them doesn't help) they're not perfect but still great compared to other options

speaking of, is there anything wrong with Modrinth? there must be something! i had a 10+ year break from minecraft and had to relearn how to manage a modded client last year, which is when i found Modrinth. it's so good????? clean, pretty, fast, stable, no bullshit! very open, has APIs for pretty much anything (you can fetch their daily ad revenue with it!) . works on windows, linux, macOS. comes in nixpkgs. i submitted some mods and they scanned them automatically + reviewed manually before publishing (hey vscode marketplace whats up??) why? what's the catch? a commercial software product like this is not possible in 2026. is there some secret sauce that makes your product immune to bullshit? trans women on the team?

@SharklettVT except thats not how it works, because it doesnt break your pc, just the hardware used exclusivly to bypass anticheat systems if i used DMA, i would deserve to have it bricked for being a cheating shit

as fun as it is seeing script kiddies getting owned. destruction of property is kind of really bad and this just proves that riots kernel level anticheat is essentially malware. i will never play a game by riot and i hope they get sued/class actioned.

@Tr0jxN @Wato1876 afaik feather just "overlooks" stopping ad video playback while in the background, ads are just videos and they dont run anything, so its mostly harmless for the end user i dont believe they run their own miners or anything, thatd be a huge deal if they did

@stagenterl @Wato1876 I would think so too, but theres trojan malware built to run adware or bitcoin mining in the background. That’s where I get the notion of these practices being predatory. Also, generally, I assume some users wouldn’t consent to the hidden features. ?
