@harukaawake he has still until 2028 to change to PR since the new business manager visa has a grace period?

🇯🇵 There's a lot of misinformation floating around (both in Japanese and English) about this situation so allow me to explain what happened. A man name Kumar from India moved to Japan 30 years ago and opened a curry shop and was on a Business Manager visa. During his time here he never bothered to switch to a PR visa (which would have made his life much easier) and instead kept renewing his business visa. However, the requirement went up last year to renew the business visa. ⭐️ (Before) 5 million yen or 2 full-time employees ⭐️ (Now) 30 million yen + 1 full-time Japanese employee He didn't meet the current requirement. This change was designed to ensure businesses create real Japanese employment and have genuine economic contribution. Most Japanese people don't want to shut down foreigner run restaurants. However, it is very important to follow the rules and make smart decisions (like switching to a PR visa if you don't have money) to avoid these situations.

Not exactly. SpaceX requires that there be no annoying “portal” to use Starlink. Starlink WiFi must just work effortlessly every time, as though you were at home. Delta wanted to make it painful, difficult and expensive for their customers. Hard to see how that is a winning strategy.

Delta rejected adopting SpaceX's @Starlink on its fleet because it wanted to provide internet connectivity to passengers via the Delta Sync portal, instead of the Starlink-branded portal. Delta has since chosen to partner with Amazon's LEO. This will result in Delta falling behind many of its competitors in offering high-speed WiFi onboard, as many other carriers are already offering or installing Starlink, whereas Amazon's LEO airplane WiFi for Delta is still a couple year away (or more). Satellites currently in orbit: • SpaceX's Starlink: 10,400 • Amazon's LEO: 300 (Delta rejection info according to Ron Baron)

Seattle vs. Bellevue: 20 years of data, side by side I pulled the numbers and the gap is wider than I expected. Both cities grew about the same (Seattle +40%, Bellevue +34%). But the outcomes diverged hard. Budget (ex-municipal utilities, real per-capita, 2026 dollars): • Seattle: $5,997 → $8,677 per resident (+45%) • Bellevue: $5,741 → $4,653 per resident (−19%) • Seattle now spends 1.9x more per resident than Bellevue on essentially the same menu of city services Crime (per 100,000, 2025 estimates): • Violent crime: Seattle ~542, Bellevue ~99 (5.5x gap) • Property crime: Seattle ~4,100, Bellevue ~2,200 (1.9x gap) Homelessness (King County PIT count): • 2006: ~7,900 • 2024: 16,868 (+113%) • Seattle absorbs nearly all of the visible unsheltered population. Bellevue, same county, does not. Schools (4-year graduation rate, 2024): • Seattle Public Schools: 88% • Bellevue School District: 94%, ranked #1 in Washington • SPS has lost 4,000+ students since 2019. Families with options are leaving. Median household income (2023, inflation-adjusted): • Seattle: $121,984 • Bellevue: $161,300 (+32%) Life expectancy: • East King County (Bellevue area): 84.2 years • King County overall: 81.2 years • Seattle Downtown/Belltown/First Hill: 71.6 years • 15+ year gap within the same county Where Seattle still wins: • Parks system, ranked #8 in the U.S. by Trust for Public Land • Transit (more buses, light rail, walkability) • Cultural amenities Bottom line: Seattle spends nearly twice as much per resident as Bellevue and gets worse outcomes on schools, safety, homelessness, and life expectancy. Some of that is because Bellevue is wealthier and less burdened with regional problems. But not all of it. The dollars-to-outcomes gap is the real story, and Seattle’s defenders have a hard time explaining it away.

@Nick_Davidov Well, I think it’s actually fine for the market as soon as it has some barrier to enter. There are much more risky investment strategies that allow to invest everyone.

The secondary markets with layered SPVs are NOT good for the industry Be on the cap table by being early enough, or through a reputable fund that is on the cap table. Or be valuable enough to be invited into a founder managed RUV. As someone said, “Buying into a 3 layer SPV is just funding your college roommate’s coke habit in Miami”
_gabrielShapir0@lex_node

I am surprised more people are not paying attention to this update from Anthropic on its stock policy. This seems like a potential bombshell. There is an active secondary market purportedly in Anthropic stock or derivatives including on fairly reputable (or at least well-known) platforms like Forge. Anthropic is calling them out *specifically*, by name, and essentially *saying* 100% of these are illegal. Some may be frauds (people selling Anthropic stock or interests in Anthropic stock that they don't truly own), but more likely many are legit attempts at transferring Anthropic equity (directly, as SPV shares, or as some type of 'beneficial interest' or future, etc.) Anthropic appears to be saying it will treat all these transfers as void. I don't have access to their terms, but it's very interesting to think what this could mean. Do the 'first purported sellers' in the chain potentially have an opportunity to do a double-dip? Does the first seller and all downstream buyers get the entire entitlement nuked? Anthropic is threatening that--are they just bluffing? If they're not bluffing, what litigation is likely to ensue? This can get into really esoteric areas of corporate law that depend on exactly how the transfer restrictions are drafted as well as the language around how violations of transfer restrictions are treated--for example, if they are merely voidABLE then downstream buyers can assert various equitable claims/defenses, but if they are VOID ab initio then in some jurisdictions that forecloses equitable defenses.

LITERALLY ALL I WANT IS A CHATBOT FOR TRAVEL "FIND ME THE BEST HOTEL AND BOOK IT"
TBPN@tbpn

"I do not think a chatbot is the right interface for travel or e-commerce." - @bchesky "I think the future is not apps. The future is agents, but I don't think they're going to be text-forward. I think they're going to be really rich user interfaces." "Imagine using iMessage to do everything, when in fact every other app has a unique interface." "With e-commerce, you want a very rich user interface. It would be agentic. You can have a conversation with it, but the point is that it has to be more visual."

Japan's recent change of Business Manager Visa rules could drive many legal immigrants who are running legitimate tax-paying restaurants out of business. They previously required about $31K of capital for a visa. Now they require $191K - a huge increase.

@MrsRightside @Jeremy_ @flapprdotnet It’s slightly different - some of these companies don’t even hire you. I’ve been asked at MS interviews “how do I encourage diversity at a workplace” by a person who started their interview with “I’m a Latina engineering manager”, and some similar experience at Apple and others.
