I had multiple meetings with the seniors where I told them to cut it out, and I mentored the juniors kindly on the side. The juniors’ output and thought processes improved by a crazy amount. Both seniors later admitted they had been wrong to be so harsh.

I joined a four-man team at work; two seniors and two juniors. The seniors were extremely unhappy with the juniors and in every daily meeting they berated them. It was a disaster. The juniors had become obsessed with proving they had worked, and were terrified to ask questions.

You can see how deeply feminine attitudes around male relationships have penetrated the psyche. To not realize that bullying is how you help young men is an incredibly feminine attitude. If you actually have “mentored” young men you would know this. Men should always be competing

Reading Tuchman’s Proud Tower, about the peace conference held in the early 20th century. The Germans are opposed to restrictions on military armament, and their objections sound… based. I would be on their side, and want to be, if only I didn’t know how badly they ruined Europe

@goblinodds Has happened to me multiple times in the past year 😂. I identified it afterward as a feeling like “since nothing in the world is interesting or enjoyable, I might as well clean the house; it can’t be worse than anything else”

I can’t imagine resisting that obsession for any extended period of time, let alone my whole life. I have odd food-related little mental issues, misophonia etc, but I’m very happy to be on the extreme anti-food side of the spectrum rather than drowning in food noise all the time

Wait, it was a constitutional amendment?! So if it had stayed in, “you can do redistricting this one time in 2026 & not after” would have been a part of the Virginia constitution forever? I’d assumed it was a “motion” or something idk
St. Rev. Dr. Rev ⏭️☯️🏴😻@St_Rev

The thing that gets me about the Virginia map referendum that got overturned is the actual wording of the thing, which was directed at kindergarteners. Who wouldn't want to "restore fairness"? Do you want to cuddle this cute puppy or kick it? ⏹️ cuddle ⏹️ kick

so: is that bad? Does it weaken the social position of black people, that they are known to be the ones with the loud cars? Or does it strengthen them, by creating an atmosphere where it feels like only they are allowed to do that? I can’t decide

I have similar confusion about the question: is it good or bad to play loud rock and roll with your car windows down at night? On one hand, maybe it makes people annoyed with white people; on the other, the only music you normally hear that way is rap or hispanic music

If this expression were written by anyone but him, I’d laugh at it as clear bad writing. But it is him, so I reflect: is it, perhaps, beautiful? for a butterfly to drop to its grave?

I am extremely loyal to Whole Foods because the one I go to has not done this. I don’t have to wander around for 10 minutes praying to find an employee like I do at other grocery stores. Soon I will move across the city from my Whole Foods, and I’m not looking forward to that…

the biggest enshittification that ive seen post-2020 is every customer-facing job running off a skeleton crew cause every company realized that they can *technically* survive off of it and increase their profits in the process

Once told a Korean how our courts depended on the composition of Justices, and on which party appointed them, and she looked at me like I was an alien: “Your courts are… political?!” I wonder if other countries are actually different, or if they just all have the same fiction.
FischerKing@FischerKing64

The idea that SCOTUS - and courts in general - are ‘apolitical,’ somehow ‘above it all,’ is a dangerous fiction. It’s just that sometimes there is less controversy, there is more consensus in society. People look back on ‘neutral courts’ kind of like the ‘neutral press’ of 1955.

You want the skill such that you can find the minimum possible rebuke that ends the behavior. Women need not say “fuck off creep” to repel a suitor, & Republicans need not say “deport all third world scum MAGA forever” to rebuke a bloodthirsty lib at work.

The fear rightists have of speaking up in these situations reminds me of women saying they can’t reject men because what if he gets mad and attacks her. Yes, that can happen, but it doesn’t usually, and doing so smoothly reduces the chances. Develop skill at it!
