Bomb squads scooped them up and taken them off to a field to blow them up. Interesting afternoon 🤣

1958: a British fishmonger had cod, haddock, plaice, sole, herring, mackerel, sprats, kippers, smoked haddock, eels, oysters, mussels, cockles, whelks, brown shrimp, and crab on his slab. All landed within the week. All from British waters. 2026: a British supermarket has tilapia from Vietnam, salmon from a Norwegian feedlot, and a tray of "white fish bites" of unspecified species. The North Sea is still there. The boats are still in the harbour. Somewhere between 1958 and now, the fish stopped reaching the customer.

One of the most extraordinary graphs I have ever seen.

One of the most offensive qualities of the Yookay is that it does not Yookay hard enough. As an aesthetic project (which is fundamentally what it is) a major problem it has is that it doesn’t always properly commit to the bit, it’s too often drab and dour - it’s smash burgers and dessert parlours and north face jackets not rug merchants riding camels and exotic bazaars selling gold and frankincense and myrrh and magic lamps. If it really went ‘full on’ with the orientalism it would unambiguously be far more redeemable

🇯🇵 Recently, I see lots of anti-Japanese posts from Africans. This is Japan in the 1960s... only 20 years after World War II was over. We built this. You were never hit with any nuclear weapons and yet you built nothing. Why?

This door in Westminster Abbey is older than most modern nation-states. Made in the 1050s from an English oak, it's the only surviving Anglo-Saxon door in Britain.

Interessant plaatje uit Denemarken, waar dit soort zaken wél onderzocht en benoemd mogen worden.
