lol. my therapist doesn't know what conversion therapy is and why the supreme court's ruling yesterday was bad. her advice was "don't take on all the weight of the suffering in the world, I don't even watch the news anymore". also I think she's married to a cop so uhhhh yeah

@TheLincoln oh I agree absolutely about Nathan Fielder and Tim Robinson. I quote Corncob TV way too often, and the random call backs to the mall santa with a giant fucking gun kills me, and both shows never really feel overly mean or bigoted, just bizarre

@starchildicanbe might be true, mostly just saying that millennial TV comedy has been pretty great and I think will overall hold up. (If making specific predictions, probably The Rehearsal remains hugely acclaimed in the future and ITYSL remains a cult classic of the era.)

Most of that is Gen X stuff from when millennials were in college, so I guess we'll see what millennials produce now that Gen Z enjoy. But Nathan Fielder / Tim Robinson / Eric Andre type comedy will hold up pretty well I think!
sebastian castillo@bartlebytaco

as a firmly middle millennial i wonder sometimes if there’s a single cultural trope or inheritance my age group produced that has aged well. our mount rushmore is like, jim from the office, heckin doggo parlance, buzzfeed, reaction gifs. sad stuff

@jvstlikeheaven_ counterpoint: the 2017 adaptation's lack of faithfulness to the source material is extremely frustrating in ways the original mini series isn't. the original mini series takes a number of creative liberties, but I'll never forgive Part 1 of 2017 making Beverly a sexy lamp

@TheGayChingy pretending to fall asleep on the couch in the living room so I could stay up late and watch reruns of Futurama on adult swim was such a formative experience for me. the world of Futurama is extremely cruel and mean spirited but it feels so full of life and wonder and freedom

Part of this is The Simpsons is a show with a huge cast that’s largely beholden to keeping the status quo from episode to episode, season to season. Futurama really just doesn’t need to do that. Its dozen or so characters can have real dynamic shifts and anything is possible

Even if Trump ever gets removed from office or after he’s gone, the US will never have Germany’s “Never Again” because half the country is full of dumb fucks that would still do it all over again

tbh the scenario I might be most afraid of is what I call a Nuclear Franz Ferdinand. one smaller nuclear power (my bet is Israel) deploys a nuclear weapon against a regional enemy that has support abroad from larger nuclear empires (like Iran), and it drags us all into WW3.
veronica, the ugly barnacle of spring@starchildicanbe

also, quick thing. this map undersells how bad it will be. US policy is explicitly to launch all missiles and bombs and rockets in the event of a direct attack. "use it or lose it". our policy is to murder the world if anything resembling this (potentially) happens.
