dev day 588: My game now generated random missions. On top of that I built a web interface for writing text for generating a matching mission name and briefing based on the random parameters. #indiegamedev #gamedesign #buildinpublic

I really do feel that the vast majority of new tools we have to work with (nanite style geometry and realtime GI) are 100% production tools that happen to look good, rather than the other way round.
That said, I love a mid poly workflow and get a stupid amount of satisfaction from a neat balanced and good light bake.

Non gamedev people have no idea how much easier lumen or rtgi makes development, and i say that as someone who decided not to use it. an average person would fucking crash out if they found out what it takes to make a game with good lighting in old fashioned ways.

If you have been wondering why UE5 games on Switch 2 are still few and far between, it's because devs have been having trouble with the engine on Switch 2 It's largely been alleviated now though, this update will be a big help.

Yeah - I think that its sort of the idea that its a mathematical calculation of quality is where the disconnect comes in.
Most people have had numbers be a definitive 'SCORE' in everything in life - as a way to measure against other things. School grades, sports scores, credit scores - and those are things that we trust to have some sort of objective truth behind them.
So when we are shown a number that's higher or lower than another, it must mean that its COMPARITIVELY better or worse.
I think that this could work in like a 'genre' way. Like I'm sure that certain racing games receiving high or low scores is beneficial when compared to other racing games - but its useless when comparing to a narrative RPG.
Maybe reviews could have a game on 'either side' of the review. On the left you show what you consider the 'worst' of the genre, on the right what you consider the 'best' - and then the score smack in the middle. That way at least a person knows what the metric is of the score.

@StasisGame I've always just taken them as a critic's recommendation.
I always think back to Metro 2033. A game that did not score well at release and has since become a major franchise.
Critics I followed at the time liked it despite the flaws. I loved it.

@StasisGame oh wait you mean move the top of the pole to move the bottom of the pole, like a frictionless rod that presses a button at the other end, interesting
English

@KickdashGamer Could be either - but its gotta physically move to touch the button. :D
English

@StasisGame Depends if the pole features a fibre-optic cable or plain old copper

The fact that they didn't put him in fancy dress-robes is atrocious.
